the cons of jhu

let's inject some LIFE into this johns hopkins board.

discussion topic: what do you guys think about the stuff that is said about hopkins professors not caring about undergrads and about life there being stressful and overcompetitive (like at studentsreview.com). are these reasons enough to not attend jhu? what are some other bad things you've heard about it and are those bad things bad enough to prevent you from attending?

The idea of Hopkins professors caring more about research over teaching can be true of any research university. However, every university has their share of excellent professors that are deeply devoted to undergraduate education. Although I admit JHU is probably better for graduate education, undergrads still get a good taste of what it's like to always be on their feet while experiencing a great education at a wonderful university. The competitive nature of the university will help students prepare for the real world. I think its all based on personal preference...of course going to JHU would mean sacrificing a bit of your social life.

well it obviously hasn't deterred any of us from applying... hehe.

the only thing i'm worried about is the location, and safety in general.

but what am i saying. i'm still waiting on a miracle :P

The only thing that I am worried about, is the strength of my proposed major... economics.

why? they're no good at econ?

I am not sure... I was just questioning their strength in econ.
