It's time to decide which AP tests DS will take in May. If not credits, I don't see the reason why he should take certain AP tests, so I would like to get some advice.

What would be the benefit of taking following AP tests to who will major in Political Science? Will any of those fulfill the requirement of The Core?

AP English Literature
AP US History
AP Government and Politics
AP Macro Economics
AP Spanish
AP Biology
AP Chemistry
AP Calculus AB

(Some of them are already taken)

Hi gooddaddy, you may find the following page helpful: [Examination Credit and Transfer Credit - University of Chicago Catalog](<a href=“Examination Credit < University of Chicago Catalog”>Examination Credit < University of Chicago Catalog)

While somewhat convoluted, the table outlines the types and scores of exams eligible for AP credit. Of note is that students may receive a maximum of 6 general elective credits; some of the courses conferring general elective credit are included in the table, while some not listed fall either in to the category of “other” (such as English and History courses). General elective credits may be gained in addition to credit for particular courses, and the courses for which no credit may be gained are listed at the bottom of the asterisk-section.

Students will discuss the applicability of AP credit to their program of interest or goals with their adviser during orientation week, so this table should be used as a general guideline for which courses may confer credit. Some AP credits, for example, may be used to satisfy general education requirements, but may not be appropriate to satisfy coursework required for a particular major or minor program.

Oops, cross posted.

I would prioritize AP Biology (placing out of Core Biology - 1 credit), AP Chemistry (placing out of two quarters of Physical Sciences - 2 credits), AP Calculus AB (placing out of at least one, possibly two quarters of Math - 1~2 credits), and AP Spanish (placing out of language requirement - 3 credits) over others. AP English and AP Government and politics can also be used (3 elective credits). I would cross out AP Economics as it only confers 2 elective credits. Eliminate the rest.

It’s a shame that all of my high AP scores are in classes where I can’t use them. I didn’t earn decent scores in the STEM APs and scored high in the histories and englishes, which seem to not count. So sad.
