the crimson-anyone plan to join?

if i am admitted to harvard, i am soooooooooooo jumping this bandwagon. i seriously think its one of the most kickass newspapers ever. anyone else?

My high school doesn't have a newspaper, but I'd consider joining. A lot of my teachers tell me I should go into journalism, so it's worth a try. See if it's as kickass (I can't believe they let you type this word, by the way) as you say. ;)

corranged, student journalism, journalism in general is really really great. esp if you get the chance to goin celebrated publications like the crimson. how do i know? im the managing editor of one of the top 20 high school publications in the country...and let me tell y ou, its been one hell of a ride. i hope you enjoy journailsm no matter where you end up.

It sounds pretty intense. I don't know if I'd have enough time for it with music and stuff. Hmmm... That would be a problem.

But, that's really cool about your high school's newspaper. I go to a tiny little school, so we don't have anything like that. Wouldn't it be difficult to start on a prestigious newspaper with no experience? I guess everybody has to start somewhere, though! And I have no idea what I want to do, anyway. My teachers tell me I'm a funnel, though, which is apparently good for journalism. I, myself, am not sure what to make of that. ;)

funnel, huh? well...i suppose that is good...im not sure myself what tomake of that. i think at the crimson, anyone and everyone is invited to write, and contribute, so dont worry about the prestige factor. you're right, everyone does have to start someplace.

Well if they're calling you a funnel in relation to journalism, my guess would be that you can take a whole lot in and turn it into a solid piece of writing. Pretty good compliment :)

Haha. I wasn't sure whether it was really a compliment, but I tend to sum things up a lot and write concisely, so I guess that was it. Who knows? Teachers are weird. :)

It's good that anybody can write for them; I didn't know that.

ooooooh
i just got my essay edited by a future-crimson journalist. and that too for free. i am so lucky.
:D

Hahaha. Should I start charging? Yours was the first essay I've ever read on CC. :)

I Am Honored :)

you know what I want to join? the lampoon!

Isn't it hard to become involved with the Crimson? Like, it's a competitive application sort of thing?

There are...ways...to reduce competition.

I was on the Crimson when I was an undergrad. Afterward, I became a journalist (among other professions).

The Crimson is one of the country's best student newspapers, and has a very dedicated, close staff, the majority of whom have no plans of becoming journalists, but love running a student newspaper.

John Kennedy wrote for the Crimson in his Harvard days.

actually, several of us members of the class of 09 who post on this board are crimson-eds (we just had grand elections a few weeks ago). getting onto the crimson can be tough, but it also sort of depends on what board you comp. and of course, once you're elected, it is what you make of it.

the crimson hosts several open houses during the first month of school to recruit students from the freshman class to comp.

I think that both John Kennedy and Theodore or Franklin Roosevelt were editors in chief of the Crimson. Working on a student newspaper is great prep for law school and other careers.

Ooooh I want to join, me me me! :D

jeparlefrancais: where can I find rankings of the "Top 20 High School Newspapers"?

I want to! In fact, I'm sending in some samples of my writing to see if I can get a good recommendation from them.
