Tests are taken, essays are written, recs are done, and apps are in. The Nov. 1 deadline that we have dreaded for so long has finally arrived, and those of us applying early will have sent our apps by tonite at the latest. How do you feel about your chances? Any plans now that apps are done and a deadline that has loomed for so long is now passed?

I'm basically not going to fret until I get my decision. It's best not to think about it.

Well, I'm satisfied with my application. I felt that I did the best job that I could. From here, random elements likely begin to predominate, so I will regard this application as a job well done.

Except for the interview, which yet remains...

Wow, don't you think about it. It feels right terrible...like you ate something wrong for breakfast. I used to wake up every morning during the 14 post-SAT days counting off my fingers how many days were left. Couldn't do anything properly, and that's only two weeks! To think of 45 days of impending doom...4get it and keep up the school work, that's what I'm gonna do. Not that there's anything to be saved in my transcripts and stuff.
Oh, btw, has anyone scheduled an interview? It's the last thing in the app, and I'd better get it done ASAP. I sent an email to the alumnus but no reply. Better luck over there?

finally done =) really happy except for my sats. and the fact that i turned it in today, which might look bad.

im also confused about the interview. do THEY contact you or do YOU contact them for a appointment?

they contact you. after harvard gets your app, an interview committee person contacts you and in my case, they said that my interviewer will be calling me within a week to set up my interview time. my week ends today so hopefully ill get a call tonite.

Jennifer, thxxx. Does that apply to internationals too? SRM, you were taking a huge risk don't you think? Couldn't have thought of doing so myself, a big procrastinator as I am.
43 days to go... Sorry, couldn't help it:D

ugh, just got the call for my interview. well actually, the rep called last night but absent minded me lost my cell phone so I did not know I had a message until tonight. Anyways, my interview is this weekend. wish me luck :)

some trivial for the day... apparently there's a Harvard Virginia Club - that's where the Harvard rep say she was calling from

Best of luck, guys!

Yeah, and come back and report what questions you had to face, will you:)
Oh, and by the way, what are you gonna wear? People keep telling me not to wear jeans, but I just don't see what's wrong w/ that.

i was planning on wearing a suit to mine but im starting to think that thats too formal...so maybe i will go with the suit pants and a blouse or something without the jacket.

You guys are so lucky. I submitted my app 10/15 and the wait seems 10 times longer...

the interviews for everyone at my school (about 30 early applicants) were all in mid-October. don't worry though, they're nothing to get anxious about.

oh and in response to the earlier posts, i wore dress pants and a blouse, and dress shoes. it's like a conversation-type interview. if you can hold a decent conversation and seem genuine, you're good. if you're applying to harvard, i'm sure you have plenty of interesting things to talk about, which is what they want. they're trying to see if you have a life beyond schoolwork. my interview went for an hour and a half, and we didn't even touch upon most of my activities and academics. we mostly talked about law, politics, studying the Classics, the Marines, harvard athletics, being Irish at harvard (i know, random), and ROTC on campus (since i would be doing NROTC-Marine Corps option if i went to harvard, which i would have to do through cross-registration with MIT; however, you still have to wear your uniform on the harvard campus once a week etc.), and we talked about my high school, since all the interviewers for the students at my school went to my school. i hold a lot of leadership positions within my school, especially in sports and student government, and we neever even got to those topics. all 30 of us came out realizing that it was a lot more casual that we had anticipated. like any interview, you should be well-prepared, but don't psyche yourself out. good luck!

thanks so much boston usmc.

anytime; glad to help.

--shawna :-D

all 30 of you?!?!?

boston usmc: do u go to crls or some other school really really close to harvard?

i go to boston latin school (founded 1635; Harvard is 1636). yeah, 30 applied early. usually about 80 apply each year in all, including regular decision, and normally we get 20-30 in. last year was an all-time low of 16-18 acceptances i think.

-shawna

oh for allaoutliving- if i confused you with the 30 interviews, they were all done on one morning at my school for all applicants, and that's the only reason they all got done so quickly. sorry, i wasn't being very clear.
