Oh no! Didn't want to begin any angst. I think it's probably a generalized email and they just made a mistake.

The email clearly states that having an interview or not does not in any way sway their decision. They further state interviews are for US to ask questions about Vassar. The reason not everyone gets an interview is there are simply not enough interviewers in certain areas (I live in the Atlanta area).

I was trying to bring a smile to your faces (especially with the mechanical pencil hair ornament) and to point out interviews, the whole admissions process, is NEVER predictable!!

It is a funny story, tsprite, especially since you were just getting back to school from being sick and it was the last thing you were expecting.

So, it sounds like everyone did get the email?

Your story was very funny! I don't think you created any angst. I think we're all just crazed applicants who take everything as a potential sign, or at least add levity to our stressed out lives by pretending that every minute thing is a sign!

but it is really strange to receive such interview notification email in the end of the admission process
most of colleges have a deadline for interview in jan or feb.

I think maybe they are trying to alleviate some of our angst (not gonna happen! LOL).
You know how our minds work right now. Perhaps they wanted to let us know that even if we didn't get an interview it wasn't because we were not a strong candidate.

When the woman interviewed me last week she must have seen the shock registered on my face and exclaimed first thing that she was sorry she didn't get this done earlier and it was just for me to ask questions about Vassar. Every school has stated that being interviewed does not mean anything.

that's bizarre. My vassar interviewer told me that all the alums have to report the interview to the admissions office no later than 2/27. How come you guys still had interviews that late?

FYI: Vassar alum interviewers are asked to complete a form after the interview. From what I understand, the main issue for the interviewer is whether a particular student would be a "good fit" at Vassar. If the interviewer thinks this to be the case, I don't see how an interview "does not mean anything."

SwatGrad: When I wrote "it doesn't mean anything" I was (obviously misstated...sorry) trying to convey that just because some people had a late interview does not guarantee admission nor mean others who were not (or not interviewed at all) would not be accepted. I know most of us are all have the acceptance jitters right now and wanted to not make that issue a cause of concern. :)

You guys are looking too much into the email. It was a general email that would attempt maybe to provide you with an opportunity to ask questions about the school - the questions you would have been able to ask at your interview had you been able to get one.

In terms of your interview counting, why wouldn't it?

(1) and the most obvious... it demonstrates interest!
(2) They get a face for a name.
(3) They can see that your legit.

They report as much as they retain back to the AdCom. They let them know whether we were well-spoken, whether we semt shy, whether we were there because we WANTED to be there or because our parents wanted us to be there. Maybe if you surprise your interviewer and they like you so much so that they write you an excellent recommendation - then that would certainly help you, no?

We'll see in the COMING WEEK (Notice how there is no S at the end of the word "week.")

abkid91: Exactly! I think what I was so ineptly trying to convey was it may be a good sign but I'm not thinking about it...one more week and I'll know one way or the other as will we all! :)

but how much does a good interview help? because I'm kind of a long shot for Vassar but I had such an amazing interview. 10 minutes in the guy told me I was the perfect Vassar student. But how much does that actually count?

I was expecting my Vassar letter in the mail yesterday… imagine my dissappointment when it wasn’t in my mailbox. So now I have to anxiously wait until tomorrow :(

While I would love to be accepted to Vassar, even though I had a late interview, I did not read anything into it. I think we all know by now that admissions decisions are a mixture of many aspects and extremely unpredictable. I was an early write to Swarthmore and never had an interview. Go figure.

I am also still waiting for my Vassar notification. Our mail delivery service is almost as unpredictable as admissions decisions! LOL

Congrats to all accepted and good luck to those still waiting.

^ If it makes y’all feel any better, all my friends who got rejected from Vassar got their letters before me and my friend who got in! That was two years ago, though.
