The Decisions This Year Seem Pretty Random

here's what I think is random...

a friend of mine with 1800 ish SAT, a GPA closer to 3.0 than 4.0 and nothing much in the extracurricular section got into UC berkeley as a fall admit.

I got a 2280 on the SATs, pretty good SAT IIs (>750) and had a 4.2 weighted GPA and my extracurriculars were similar to hers; I was a spring admit...

I just don't get it...

I got into Berkeley Mechanical Engineering, but not UCLA.

RANDOM FOR SURE. I am still trying to figure this out?

UCSD-ADMITTED
UCSB-ADMITTED
UCLA-ADMITTED
UC-BERKLEY-ADMITTED
CMC-ADMITTED
SCRIPPS-ADMITTED
WASHINGTON AND LEE-WAITLISTED?
YALE-REJECTED-(LEGACY)
COLUMBIA-WAITLISTED
STANFORD-REJECTED
USC-ADMITTED

Alwyshopeful,

I don't get it either. Was your friend a URM or did she have any extraordinary hardships?

As the parent of a junior who has > 2200 on the SAT I and 1500 on the SAT IIs, I worry that next year's class will be even more unpredictable.
