I'm just bummed more than anything, but is it true that 10% were deferred? because there are a lot of us.

And hey, can we submit new essays if we've been deferred?

anyone know the specific number of SCEA applicants deferred?

according to my college counselor, yeah, it was 16%/10%/74%. He was really surprised too.

I got deferred too..

u sure defer rate goes up to 74%? dat scared me

Those numbers are incorrect, or you must be talking about something else.

BTW, I too was deferred, oh well, I dont see it as bad, I think I still have a great chance of getting in, and so should the rest of you.

At first I was really bummed (my brother got in early last year, so I was anticipating a similar scene) but then I learned that out of the 6 applicants who applied from my school - all very qualified and strong - everyone was rejected but me and a friend of mine (both Asian girls). So right now I guess I'm just grateful, except for the fact that I haven't started any of my other apps yet.

deferred
our school had 1 accepted, and the rest deferred/rejected

Deferred! Better than rejected, and it's pretty awesome to be in the top 26% of Stanford early applicants, fo realz.

so the defer rate is only 10 percent? lower than even the admit rate?

haha, does that make us more special?

i jz know according to their letter 10percent of those who are deferred get admitted...if defer rate is only 10 percent..yeah,i too should be grateful..

i know only 1ppl admitted and havn't heard of any rejection yet so i guess ppl deferred are more than 10percent?

deferred here too. I don't really know what I can do to increase my chances either. =(

does anyone know how many people get deferred?

The Office of Undergraduate Admission announced today that 738 students have been selected
These students were selected from an applicant pool of 4,551 candidates.

Stanford aimed to either admit or deny the majority of candidates who applied during the restrictive early action admission cycle.

Some candidates not offered admission were deferred to the regular decision process and will be evaluated again.

hi everyone!
i was deferred as well. i was really upset at first, but have come to terms with it. now i'm just waiting until april...
does anyone know how early in april they let you know of their final decision?

also -- i just want to say congratulations to everyone that was deferred, and that if it upset you as it did me, don't let it get you down. i'm sure you all know this already, but we will get into wonderful schools, and for all we know, stanford could be the place we end up!

I am one of two students from my school who was deferred. The other ten early applicants were rejected :(

So what DO deferred applicants need to do?

Is it enough (or better) just to answer the optional sheet they provided, or should we like, for example, be writing letters to the admissions office periodically?

i got deferred as well. it sucks, but at least I will be motivated to complete my other applications now

but being deferred is a good thing, now that i think about it. it means we're basically good fits for stanford (since we weren't rejected), but that they are just waiting to see the quality of the applicant pool as a whole. so this at least gives me some confidence that i will be accepted to some top-notch university, if not stanford itself.

i'm going to be keeping in touch with the admissions officers via email or something. the more they know of me, the better.

Another one deferred here. The waiting game resumes, this time with 4+ months on the clock. Anyone have statistics on how many people got deferred? Is it really only 10% (which would be 455 applicants out of 4551)?

Does sending messages to the Admission Office help...?

Cf. "Admissions office says 'demonstrated interest' not a factor"
Admissions office says 'demonstrated interest' not a factor - The Stanford Daily Online

Yeah, I think I'm just going to fill out the optional form really well and pray for the best. I don't want to bother the Stanford Admissions Officers when they're so busy!
