The Deferred Club

wmgan, if we were deferred, isn't it better that there were less people deferred, so we compete with less people in the spring?

btw, i was deferred, and i'm not giving up. Hey, we still have 14.4% chance of being accepted to Yale in the spring, compared to the 7-8% RD for other top schools.

bjrwrh precalc ended up a B+, chem slightly lower than that...=/ my only non-As in high school, even though i've taken 6 APs already and 5 more this year.

they hurt my gpa though, bringing it down to a 3.8 out of 4.0, unweighted.

about SAT II scores, do any of y'all really think we should retake them, if all of them are over 700? i kinda thought i'd just focus on highlighting my ECs and that sort of thing...

Two grades in the B range in soph year are okay, esp if you improved over the years.

If they are in the 700s, you should be okay. I think that you would have been rejected if they didn't feel you were academically qualified. (Of course, I AM saying this as someone who partly attributes his deferral to a 700 Math, but the more that I think about it, the less of a role I think it played.)

They liked my application so much, they wanted to read it again! (I'm deferred too.)

I was expecting it, so I'm not disappointed. I'm not sure Yale is my first choice (but out of my top 3, it was the only one that did EA), so I'm content to leave the early spots to the more hard-core Yalie-wannabes. (Though I'm sure a lot of people here belong there too. Y'all have my sympathies.)

I'm still really interested in Yale though and I'm in a position to get a letter of recommendation from the governor of NJ (the not-McGreevey one). Do you think that would help or would it just make it look like I'm exploiting my connections to get in without actually deserving it? And does anyone know how we get the contact information of our regional admissiosn counselor?

How do you get the contact info for your regional admission counselor? (I live in Georgia).

Landesman has Westchester, also.

girlx, my regional admission counselor came to the info session at a high school nearby, so that's how I knew. For Columbia, though, I e-mailed the admissions office, and an assistant gave the person's name.

Julz711, I'm really not sure, but I don't think they help, unless you know the governor personally, and you have done a special project or something with him/her. It won't hurt, but it won't do you much good. I like the way you interpreted the deferral.

Hi everyone, I'm still here too  I hope we can all turn these decisions around!! I've just spent the last 4 hours trying to see the logic of one person's getting accepted over another (with only the information posted here) and I've decided not to try to figure that out anymore. It's just not helpful. We just have to carry on. So please include me in The Deferred Club.

Welcome, andi! Even though I'm sorry to hear that your son got deferred, I'm glad to know that I'll continue to have your company for the next few months.

Lindseylujh, hang in there and and assure the committee of your absolute interest in becoming a member of the Yale community. I was very sure you would be admitted. Your profile is superb. Your deferral means that you still have almost as good a chance in the regular round as those taken this time around. The door is not closed. I really you do hope you get in. Best wishes.

hi everyone,

i'm new here, but i, too, was deferred. is anyone calling the admissions office? the decisions page said to communicate in writing, but all other books, websites, advice, etc. says to call!

frankly, though, i feel lucky to have been deferred and not rejected. looking at all of your stats makes me feel so inferior.

Hey I want to get an interview now too. (Michigan) You don't have to find the exact person/address, but...actually, could you?

Otherwise, I'm just going to try NOT to think about Yale until April rolls around.

And I totally agree with wishfulthinking's last statement.

i don't know if i belong in this club. they told my application is incomplete. argh!!! why couldn't they have told me earlier???

I'll join the club. I kind of expected to get deferred but could not hold back the disappointment when I really did. xD I'm taking it pretty well though. I still have hopes and it won't be the end of the world if I don't get in regular [although I would really really love to]
I don't know if I can retake my SAT IIs on January test date but taking them on march will be too late, right? Also, if I have achieved something new or gotten a job after I already sent in my app., can I send them the additional info.? If I can, how can I go about doing it? Call them? write to them?

I'm reasonably content to be deferred. At least it indicates that they think I'm qualified, even if they may well not eventually choose to accept me. I'm hopeful for April, but now have to stop thinking about it!

Hi Lindsey, I'm sorry you were deferred too but it's great to have you here! I guess it's back to the drawing board :p :p :p :p

I'll join the club. I'm not too upset because I was accepted to University of Edinburgh (my tie for first choice), and I have a second shot in April.

Suburbian, where are you from? Westchester?

yeah. (10 charac.)
