The Desi Thread

Haha I feel like I either love or hate other desis. Can’t live with them, can’t live without them ;)

I hate summer boredom cuz it makes me watch Indian movies -_- Haha.

YES!! Like many others, as long as I get good grades, they’re fine with it. Oh yeah, like you guys, I can’t date until…like…IDK!!

Lol my dad was like “You can date after you’re married.”

Me: -_________-

^That’s really funny. Even in India, I see people holding hands and strolling in the park even though they aren’t married. In fact, one park was closed during the day because there were kids skipping school to go out on dates…I think that was the reason!! LOL!!

Well I guess it’s different for me since I’m Muslim too. :P

I’m a Desi guy and I’m equally white-washed and Indian I’d say. Haha luckily I’ve always wanted to be a neurologist without the influence of my parents, but I guess I’m still fitting the stereotype. I think my parents would’ve allowed me to date as long as I kept my grades up, since they’re scared I may get…distracted.

I’ve always wondered, do you desi girls date desi guys at all? Cuz I see east asian girls like always dating east asian guys.

If I dated, it would definitely be a desi guy.

Haha I know a ton of desi couples! Just visit any UC, they’re everywhere.
I personally don’t have any racial preference. It just depends on who I’m attracted to and who I’m comfortable with. But I’m not one of those people who restricts myself to a certain race. (I don’t know about my parents though, haha)

But I guess if I had to choose, I would pick desi guys too, just because it would make things a lot easier :)

Do desi guys even like desi girls, though? My (four) desi friends are not attracted to other brown people lol.

damn…im brown and my parents dont care…I can be a dumbass if I want to =]

Hmmm…this is an interesting conversation. LOL!! I didn’t know there were so many Desis on CC!!

By my personality, I’d say I’m 1/2 white, but I’m lucky my parents don’t really “pressure” me. More like, my dad will provide 10+ minute speeches on the importance of education, intelligence, blah blah blah. Since I’ve had 4.0s for so long without my parents bugging me about it, I don’t think they even really read my report cards anymore. If I dated, it would be for a desi guy and according to my parents, when I’m of a “marriageable age.”

Lol this is a really interesting convo!
Haha I have not been so blessed. I guess I have good grades, I take all the APs, I’m in debate (obviously) and a bunch of other nerdy school organizations, but it’s not really enough hahahaha. Forever in the shadow of my overachieving older sister :P

Oh well, I’ve learned to establish myself well. And I love being Indian, it’s the funnest culture to be a part of in my opinion. Every movie of ours is High School Musical.

Wouldn’t be surprised if desis started CC. :P

Hahah CC was made for desi’s

I feel like any girl would be fine, but if it was a desi girl then she could understand me a little easier I guess. But I don’t prefer any recounting of bollywood movies lol, but a good blend of both american and indian cultures.
Too bad there were only like 2 unfortunately unlikeable indian chicks at my high school…

Quantity isn’t exactly a problem at my school.
Quality on the other hand…

ashiej7, my problem is both. I have like no Indians, and the ones I do know I’ve either a) known too long, b) are creepy/weird/crazy, or c) both.

djking99, I feel your pain! But I see you’re going to Duke, so you’ll have plenty of desi girls to choose from there haha. My sister goes there and when we dropped her off I just remember seeing Indians EVERYWHERE. It was crazy.

^My mom’s friend’s daughter goes to Duke. She’s Indian…

Case in point!

@debategeek: Haha, I’m fine, I prefer any girl, it doesn’t have to be desi at all. I can’t believe you’re seeing indians everywhere, since the school’s 20% asian haha.
