@Southerndesi Hahaha, there goes my stareotype! Regardless congrats on Cornell Hotel Management, it is a great school and my little brother really wants to go there.

Lol Ivygolfer, I’m guessing you’re an Indian that doesn’t play tennis… but golf instead? You’re actually really right, we all do play tennis. I don’t know why, though. Is it something about our culture that draws us to a hitting balls? Something akin to slapping children? LOL

Okay… this is just flat out wrong. I know loads of Indians who are definitely not premed. But if I were to say that most have not at least contemplated a career in medicine, I would be lying. Most that aren’t premed go into finance, though.

Let’s be real… who even wants to own an American car?

haha, not owning an American car is a people thing, not an Indian thing

LOL. My parents make it a point to only buy asian ones. They won’t even go for Volkswagens :P

The origin of my Pre med comment comes from an experience I had at a graduation party this year, I approached a group of about 20 college age kids that I vaguely knew and asked them how college and things in general were going. They soon erupted into a spirited MCAT discussion, and that is when I realized of the 20 kids 18 were planning to go to med school and 2 to dentistry school. While an isolated incident the stereotype seems to be hold pretty true.

THIS THREAD IS JUST PERFECT :D

You guys have no idea how hard I was laughing when I read through the past posts-- I can relate so much!

Yes it is awkward when someone tries to dance to Chikni Chameli. Yes, the aunties just sit around, talk, and laugh really loud. Yes, I go to indian parties just for the food (but not for the sweets); one criteria I have is that there must be something with paneer in it. Yes, the goodbyes take freaking forever.

On a side note, do you guys ever notice that when you call your parents to pick you up, they show up about 30 minutes late? Following IST…Indian Standard Time.

Also, there is always that ONE uncle at the parties that gets drunk, excited, and just starts dancing all over the place like there’s no tomorrow.

LOLOL i think i missed the chikni chameli post and i just went and reread everything…laughing so hard right now!

and oh my gosh, YES. ALL THE TIME. But i definitely follow IST too when it comes to American parties…I like to call it being fashionably late but all my American friends are like, “wth is wrong with you?” hehe

Im proud to represent all the mixed kids out there.

Yes, I know about the parties!!! LOL!!! I love how there are sooooooooo many Indians on CC!!! LOL!!

Have you guys noticed that all Indian movies have a love-gone-wrong theme? You know, the man really likes a girl, but she doesn’t want to get married to him…or the guys are trying to pick up girls and they have relationship problems? I think most Indian movies have the same theme!!

Yeah, the love/romance movies are ALWAYS there and ALWAYS be there. They kinda suck, but there are some good funny ones, but they’re a rarity. Also, my friends ask if the bollywood dancing actually happens in India…I’m like facepalm

^LOL!! Being born and raised in the US, sometimes I don’t understand what the big deal is in Indian movies. Here, in the US, it’s not a big deal if you see a couple holding hands, but in India and in the movies, they make a HUGE deal. Of course, this is why I abosolutely LOVE Indian movies!!:):D

It’s because they are two different cultures, with America’s being less traditional, more liberal and as some would say, “more open-minded”.

It’s funny because if those scenarios happened in real life, the parents would more than likely not let the couple get married.
Well, if it were my parents it wouldn’t happen.
Speaking of movies, pirating, anyone?

Indian movies always give me a skewed perspective of weddings. Like come on, why can’t our mehndis have awesome coordinated dances with everyone in the room like them?? Ours are so lame in comparison. everyone at my future wedding needs to work on Bole Chudiya from K3G. Hahaha.

My personal favorite pirated version of movies is when it’s filmed from the back seat of the theatre. And they keep adjusting the camera and the audio is crap. Lol.

One time we were watching a DVD of the movie Veer Zaara we got from an Indian grocery store and it was at the part where they get reunited after so many years and suddenly the movie cuts to a Tamil movie. Me and my mom were so mad. We were doing the crazy fast forward and rewind trying to find the scene :P

I love that song from K3G @twentythirteen. It’s my favorite. I love the whole romance thing in Indian movies. It’s so cute. It’s a happy ending and a movie isn’t a movie without a happy ending. :P

I love the movie My Name is Khan only because it has to do with stereotypes and how religion makes people look bad sometime even though it shouldn’t .

Dear fellow desis:

I have a question. Do we count as Asian when we fill in our ethnicity for tests? Because when I think Asian I think Chinese, Japanese, or anywhere else in east Asia.

They should really have an option for south Asian.

@ petitellama

Yes, we count as Asians.
