What are the differences between the two tests? Which one is more difficult? And are you gaining the same credits in college for tests in the same curricular area (e.g. microeconomics, macroeconomics)? If the question seems dumb, keep in mind that I am an international and thus ignorant regarding this issue.

From what I know, only AP, IB, and sometimes SATII scores will grant you college credit. I have never even heard of the CLEP.

CLEP exams will grant you college credit not towards your major. AP and IB exams will grant you college credit towards your major. AP/IB is more difficult, because they give you credit regardless of whether you need the credit for your major or not.

Actually Lamdun, CollegeBoard says on their website that CLEP is the most commonly accepted form of test-out credit, over even AP (mostly at lower-tiered schools and publics).

In that case does someone know any free tests on the internet for the AP (especially for Economics)?

I think the acceptability of CLEP tests has increased in recent years. I remember saying once that it was less selective schools that accept them, and someone called me on it. I checked the list on the CB site and I was wrong. But I had looked at the list some years before and remember lots of places weren't shown.
