The difference btwn martyrdom and suicide...

...is press coverage.

Can anyone give me an idea of my chances getting into Rice?? I'm going into my senior year of high school.

GPA: 90/100 unweighted
SAT IIs: 640 US History, 690 Math IC
ACT: 31 (I am retaking but for now just chance me with the 31)
Courses: I take the most rigorous schedule offered at my school, all advanced, no on-levels

Recs: should be amazing (one from Physics teacher, one from English, both of whom love me)

ECs:
Secretary of NHS
Treasurer of Junior Statesmen (will run for another position next year)
President of Human Rights Club senior year
Varsity Softball (9th and 10th grade)
LOTS of Theatre (participate in plays every year)
JV Volleyball (only as an underclassman)
BBYO (a Jewish youth group that I was Secretary and a Vice President of, quit during Junior Year)

Also, I may have a recommendation from a professor at Rice (I've known him a few years but I haven't asked him yet)

And finally I'm a white female from Texas.

What do you think?

and also what should i try to improve on?? any advice would be appreciated

Being white doesn't help; neither does being from TX. Being a girl probably does help at Rice. To be blunt, work on your standardized test scores --all of them...your ec's are scattered, what is your passion? I would take advantage of that faculty connection you mentioned--could boost your application if he knows the right people. All in all, Rice is definitely a reach, but don't give up--oh, and good luck :D.

anyone else?

Hmm...I think you have a decent chance at getting in.

Rice does have around 50% in-state population, might favor Texans over others or has something to do with where the majority of the applicants come from, I really don't know.

With the 31 you have a decent shot. I'd say a high match.

Rice does not favor Texans. In fact, because Rice wants geographic diversity and so many applicants are from Texas, it's actually harder for Texans to get in.
