The differences between ED and EDII ?

Hi everyone, my question is bout application DLs. I've heard that application, sent by ED increases my chances to get in, and I was planning to apply that early. However I realized that I need more time studying for SAT, so EDll is the only chance for me.

So does EDII lowers my chances comprised with ED and why DL 1st Jan still concerned early, if the date is the same with RD?

Colleges that have ED II with late Dec or Early Jan deadlines typically provide a decision in late Jan or early Feb and thus you still get a decision earlier than the usual March or April regular admission decision time at such a college.

ED II for those colleges that have it serves the dual function of getting applicants for whom ED I is too early and applicants who are rejected or deferred from another college that issues ED I or EA decisions in mid-Dec. Whether ED II is easier than ED I is subject to question. That the schools that have it are often those just below the highest tier means it might be easier than than gaining admission to those higher ranked colleges, but it could actually be harder than the ED II college’s ED I phase because its ED II phase does get a lot of top applicants that applied ED I to an ivy or other high tier college, and thus the college’s pool of ED II applicants might actually have average higher stats than the pool of its ED I applicants.

Every college that offers both ED I and ED II says there’s no difference between the two.

Many students use ED II for exactly the type of reason you’re describing - they can present a stronger profile if they apply ED II. Do what works best for you!

And the difference between ED II and RD is that the ED II candidates have still committed to attend if accepted . . . so, for the college, that makes those candidates very different from the RD candidates who’ve made no such commitment.
