For those who got the invitation to the distinguished scholarship weekend could you please let me know the time frame? My son just got accepted to the honor program so I am hoping he will get an invite. Thanks.
Do you know if some students already received invitations? My son just applied to the honors program 1/15. I hope he wasn’t too late to be considered for the distinguished scholarship.
In 2018 there was a 1/15 deadline as the cutoff for consideration of DS. Also in 2018 the first notifications began via email on February 8 for the March 9-10 DS competition. My daughter got hers on February 16 so don’t give up hope if you aren’t in the first batch that gets sent out.
Thank you! Did your daughter end up attending University of Delaware? If so, has it been a good match?
No see ended up at Clemson. She wanted that big time sports and the nicer weather. The difference in merit money between Clemson and UDEL was 9K a year. Although not insignificant was not enough for me to maker her go to UDEL. Now if she had gotten the full ride it would have been a very different conversation.
I have a D21 who I am trying to push to go there as I think it is a great school, great location, beautiful campus and with merit money very affordable for OOS students.
Thanks. I am not sure what their criteria is but I am hoping he’ll get invite.
I actually have never heard of this - is there a specific section on the website?
I applied to honors 1/15 and was accepted 1/24. They offered me 17k. I have a 96.87 GPA, 35 superscored ACT and a lot of great ECs that I’m dedicated to, could I possibly be invited to whatever this distinguished scholars opportunity is?
I’m hoping my son wasn’t too late to be considered. Not sure how to find out more information.
For those wondering about distinguished scholars, I found it helpful to look back in past years through college confidential. Type in Distinguished scholars and you will see good discussions, especially from 2018 when people share their stats and experiences. The university itself seems pretty quiet on promoting these scholarships. I only learned about them through my explorations on college confidential.
I will gives you my knowledge of Disco based on my D18 experience. Basically UDEL invited 100 high stat kids admitted honors students to the campus for a visit and to “compete” for something like 24 full rides.
The kids can, if they wish, go to UDEL on a Thursday afternoon and stay in the honors dorm with a current Distinguished scholar. On Friday that have a full day of activities, interviews with different faculty members and on Friday night there is a dinner for students and parents. On Friday night the students stay together in a hotel paid for by the school. The next morning there is a breakfast and another couple of interviews and it ends at about 12.
About a week or two later the students are notified of what scholarship they get. Every student that attends get additional merit money. However the scholarships replace the original merit award. So if you get for example a $25,000 award it is not added on to the 17K merit award rather it replaces the 17K merit award.
I hope that helps. As I mentioned above in 2018 the first emails went out on February 8. However my daughter did not get her invitation until February 16.
What’s the eligibility? Gpa and Sat score?
Did u get the invitation? What were ur stats?
I’m curious if the invites are coming.
We spoke to Admissions the other day (about a different topic) and D asked when Distinguished Scholar invites would be sent out - the answer was “between the middle and the end of this month.”
Just FYI, in 2021, the Disco invitation went out on 2/19 and the decision was announced on 3/24. Good luck to the class of 2026!
My son got the invite today.
Congratulations!
Thank you!
@momsons2 Congratulations! Good luck to your son! Are they holding the event in person this year? It was virtual last year.
No it’s virtual, beginning on March 9th evening and ending on March 12th.
