What has everyone heard about the dorms at Emory? Are there particularly any good ones?

I guess we'll never know until we visit, but I heard they had been renovated for the Olympics. So they can't be that bad. Also, the new upperclassmen dorms are supposed to be amazing.

I visited...and they're pretty nice compared to what I've seen. I think all of the freshman dorms EXCEPT ONE have a sink in every room...and the dorm that doesn't is right in the middle of campus, so they make up for it with location. Sizewise they're really nice (I thought), especially the triples and such (usually reserved for Emory scholars). The upperclass housing (Clairmont campus right down the road) is super-nice, basically an apartment with great commodities.

you can read all about them and see some very neat virtual tours of the rooms here - http://www.emory.edu/HOUSING/UNDERGRAD/opt_infresh.html

The Clairmont Campus place looks awesome.

the one that doesn't have a sink (Turman) is actually away from campus prob the furthest freshman dorm but it is still walkable and the rooms are pretty spacious

i just visited and the largest and nicest is Alabama while the smallest is dobbs. they are both central campus and right next to the DUC (cafeteria, mail, etc). the comple has three dorms which are all pretty nice and central as well. i've only heard bad about longstree because it has alot of construction. other than that one and the one that is far away, you can't go wrong.

i stayed at longstreet over the summer for a summer camp, NYLF, and it was pretty bad especially after it rained. It had a really strong odor and the floors were wet almost all the time; i wouldn't recommend that one.

Longstreet I think is supposed to be demolished soon, from what I've heard.

sorry for the wrong info...they white-lied on my visit! (they said the only dorm w/o a sink in each room was in the center of campus)

Can you rank the top dorms that you want to be in, or is the process completely random??

you can't rank the ones you want to be in all they have to go on is your preferences i.e. single sex floor, co ed floor, etc. i'm just hoping for the best (alabama!)

Alabama dorms are so so nice. The alabama double looks crappy on the website. I think its better in person. I wish I got to see dobbs to see how small they really are.

i actually live in longstreet right now.

theres a new master plan thats gonna change the way the freshman dorms are orientated. longstreet is getting torn down, and theres gonna be a new quad where longstreet is right now. the new longstreet is going to be built in the parking lot between the duc and lstreet. the lot is actually already fenced off and construction has already begun. the new quad arrangement is supposed to be really nice.
