The Dreaded Chance Me Thread

I realize that these are very annoying. But the panicked adolescent girl inside me cannot resist. Any and all input would be greatly appreciated. :)

Well, that's all for now. Thanks for looking this over.

assuming you do very well on your SATs (it looks as though you'll score 2200+), i think you have excellent chances at all of your schools - coming from someone who almost always refuses to chance kids applying to mostly ivies. maybe less competitive school is in order...somewhere like colby, maybe? nyu? vanderbilt? but just for good luck.

I'm definitely going to apply to other places. They just aren't set in stone yet. At the moment I'm thinking Tufts, CMU, and U of Rochester.

What this thread needs is a more interesting title. Unfortunately, that may be misleading. Eeek. :)

You think your test scores are low? Those are excellent; since you got a 35 on your ACT, you could probably score a 2300+ on the SAT if you choose to take it. Plus, the Exeter/Andover name will help you.

HYPS - crapshoot for anyone
Cornell - match
JHU - match

Also, what are you planning to major in?

I'm unsure what I want to do with my life. I could be a good Asian and do Pre-med, and I think I'd do pretty well. On the other hand, I like to think I'm somewhat of a rebel, so I in terms of a major I'm undecided at the moment.

The permanence of SAT scores scared me out of taking them earlier. I had signed up for one test date, but had to all-nighter the Friday night before to write a paper due the next day. (Yes I know the next day is on a weekend.) I've heard bad things about the SAT, and after looking at the test, I just dislike it entirely. Testing people on exceptions and trying to trick them just isn't a thorough assessment of their capabilities. Some of my friends who also scrapped 35 ACTs got 2200 SATs. I'm not saying that's a bad score, just not what they were looking for.

Anyhow, I signed up for the October test date. Hope all goes well?

Unfortunately, I have no hook, other than the typical nerdy Asian kid.

that might hurt yyou^^.

You need a hook.

tufts sounds like a good backup for you. good choice. i agree that you need a hook - but i'm sure that the phillips college counselor will be happy to talk that over with you! :-) from a fellow elite prep school grad, they are possibly the most helpful tool in your college search, and MUST be taken advantage of.

I'm actually somewhat stupid in that I did not arrange any extra meetings with my college counselor earlier. I imagine that he'll be quite busy fall term.

I'm considering entering in Intel and/or Siemens, though I'm not sure which.

Hopefully I haven't lost your interest.

Because that'd be a shame.

develop a relationship with him as soon as you can. it's not too late.

Well I sent him a summer email, and he did respond, but I think two may be overdoing it.

Anyhow, a second opinion would be nice.

Preferably sooner than later.
