RISD/BROWN DUAL PROGRAM for the Visual/Liberal Arts

Please I need information on this.
I’ve already read the packet online, so I know basic information.

But are there any brown students/RISD students who have heard more info on this. I know there was a girl on here not too long ago who was accepted into the program, but I’m not sure who it is.

The program has only existed for a year and only takes a handful of students. The information available online is just about all you're going to get.

Apply to each school separate and the joint program, only when you're accepted into both schools completely independently are you then reviewed by a special committee who determines who can go to the joint program, from there, you split your years between RISD and Brown.

The first class, accepted last year, consisted of ten students.

I think that some of the years are decided for you -- like, your first year is at RISD, second at Brown, and the rest of the time is up to you to split up?

This is my first post, so I hope I don't mess anything up... My incoming 12th grade daughter is at the 6-week pre-college program now at RISD and loves it. (Other daughter, incoming 11th grader, was at a 3-week mini-course at Brown at the same time and loved it as well.) Older daughter is very interested in the Brown/RISD dual program but because it is so selective, we are researching other options to get a BFA and BA in 5 years. Does anyone have any suggestions on similar programs?

Wash U seems to be a great option, plus their School of Art has a great Study Abroad semester in Florence (for up to 12 hours of credit, I think) during your soph or junior year. And you could apply ED, which seems NOT to be truly an option for the Brown + RISD program.

Tufts + SMFA is another good program, but not nearly as logistically convenient as Brown + RISD or Wash U. A Tufts rep at a college fair said that if you apply to Tufts ED but don't get into SMFA, then Tufts considers that a valid reason for breaking the ED commitment (we have not verified this by researching the Tufts website or talking to anyone else). It's kind of a shame, in my opinion, that you can't break your ED commitment to Brown if you don't get into RISD and/or if you don't get into the dual degree program. Not that I would ever complain about D getting into Brown ED (!) - it's just that she loves art (illustration in particular) and really wants a BFA as well.

Heard or read something about Johns Hopkins + MICA but daughter can't picture herself at JHU.

I know that you can get a BFA at BU, but haven't researched any further. Where else should we be researching and visiting? Thanks in advance for your advice...
