As a current junior, I want to reduce the amount of stress that comes with college applications. Do applications normally come out in the summer? What about the common app? Sorry for sounding like a noob! ;)

The common application is available in the summer, so you can work on it then. Some applications are not released for a while, but older versions are available, so you can take a look at them to get a feel for the application.

Thanks!! :)

NACAC tries to discourage colleges from accepting applications before 1 October of your senior year, but the forms will be ready sooner than that, and plenty of colleges start admitting “on the spot” as soon as the NACAC-specified date passes.

If memory serves, a lot of applications (including the common app IIRC) are released July 1. If you want to get a head start on the essays, the questions on the common app have been the same the past few years:

1) Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.
2) Discuss some issue of personal, local, national, or international concern and its importance to you.
3) Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence.
4) Describe a character in fiction, a historical figure, or a creative work (as in art, music, science, etc.) that has had an influence on you, and explain that influence.
5)A range of academic interests, personal perspectives, and life experiences adds much to the educational mix. Given your personal background, describe an
experience that illustrates what you would bring to the diversity in a college community, or an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you.
6)Topic of your choice.

DCforMe, do we have to answer all of those questions, or do we pick and choose?

ninnynoddle,
those are the 6 essay topics you can choose from

just one.

EDIT: mods can delete, c-post
