The Early Decision Report thread

i still havent heard anything!!!!! they said to wait till friday and then email them

I think I'm going to major in the Classics and/or Poli. Sci... this can definitely change :)

Funny, today the 15th is the day no one is posting results...or is it that all the active posters have gotten their decisions?

Btw, If you haven't seen the new online tour of the campus, its really pretty nice compared to most of the others Ive seen. I want to be in Jewett house personally if the lounge area looks the way they show it. Seems like the type of place I'd like to lay down and read a book...

anybody out there thinking of majoring in english or a language? i'm not really sure what i wanna major in but i figure maybe once i go to college i'll actually be able to decide. or i'll spend the rest of my life at vassar, which would be awesome. my parents might not love the bill tho hehe.

They recently renovated Jewett- so its pretty awesome. I'm sure it'll be on the top of many people's lists

i think id be happy with any dorm except strong. i heard that you can also get assigned to a wellness hall without requesting one, anybody know if thats true?

um.. i dont think thats true- about the wellness hall without requesting one. they talk about it on the tour as a choice. so go figure.

I didnt know Jewett was just renovated although it certainly looks it...I just want a room that doesnt look like it hasnt been touched since 1905....and a roommate that I like because Id hate to not be good friends with my roommate.

Im just happy to be able to go so I suppose any dorm works and if its on a wellness hall, I wouldn't mind it although Im not going to go out of the way to ask to be on it even though I don't really drink or anything like that.

I'd imagine that some people who don't opt for it get put in it thought because there cant be THAT many people specifically asking for it.

I Still Havent Heard!!!!! Going Insane!!!!!!

Amagrosa Im checking from school and thought you posted the good news but the wait continues...

Now, what exactly is the "wellness hall?" Is this just an area of the dorm houses that have stringent alcohol/partying policies? I was thinking about opting for this (because i am not at all a drinker), but I still want to have a great social life. What would a person recommend for someone such as myself?

Yea, same here, I dont drink and would prefer my room mate to not be a raging alcoholic but I dont necessarily want everyone around me to just be like sober and sitting around bored without lives...

Someone have information on how this plays out?

yeah same here silver. my earlier question might have made me sound like im a huge drunken party animal but im actually quite a dork, i promise.

I was looking at the stuff they have on wellness halls on the website, and it actually sounds quite appealing. Quiet, no smoking, and no drinking. Perfect. I don't think it will really affect your social life because it's not like you can't party at all, you just can't do it on that hall. You can easily go to another hall or house where the parties are. So it sounds pretty cool to me.

I occasionally drink socially, but I don't want craziness around my room all the time. I hope my roommate is like me - likes to party, but also wants time to study in the room. Anyway, I think I'm going to pull teeth for a single. And in terms of specific dorms, I'd live anywhere except Noyes (soooo ugly) and I guess Strong (I'm a dude).

Hey! that sounds exactly like me prospy1987... the whole "likes to party but wants time to study in the room". lol Yea, even though I am a girl, I dont think I'd want to be in Strong. Too much estrogen can be annoying. I havent seen Noyes (well, thats not true, ive probably seen it but i have no idea which of the dorms it is)

You know, iheartvassar, the wellness halls seem pretty nice when its put that way.

I have a vassar alum actually staying at my house right now, and according to him, most students wont have a social life unless they're in the library or studying quite a bit during the week. Vassar students are, for the most part, highly motivated, so I don't think you need to worry about not being able to have time to study in your own room because of other people drinking/smoking/etc.

I'm feeling a little better about my chances now. I got my SAT score back today! I went up 100 pts from a 1320 (700v 620m) to 1420 (800v 620m). Will the 180 pt difference look a little odd? I guess its consistent with my poor performance in math classes though...

Lovegreens-
Noyes is the newest dorm, the semicircular one near the psychology bldg (Blodgett). It was designed by Eero Sarrinen, who designed the St.Louis arch and the Kresge Auditorium at MIT. Noyes isn't the most attractive building, though it was quite contemporary when built in the late 50's, but it has a GREAT echo spot from the lawn in front of it. You won't have any trouble finding the echo spot, as everyone knows where it is and the grass is well worn away on the spot. They also used to put up a giant sheet and show movies on the lawn-- don't know if they still do that or not. The dorm rooms vary significantly in size from dorm to dorm.

OHHH!! thats Noyes. Yea, im not sure i'd want to live there. I think i would want to live in one of the quad dorms.

Noyes doesn't look bad from the outside in my opinion...and the lounge area on the inside looks really nice.

I read in one of my books about colleges though that the crowd that tends to like that building is more of the science fiction sort of group. How true that is, I don' t know. I wouldnt mind that building though as Im sure the rooms must be fairly nice.

Amargrosa- No word?
