The easiest major in your eyes?

Which is the easiest major you could do for undergrad? Just wondering.

General studies.

At BC? Communications.

Available at my college? Probably Comparative American Studies or Sociology. The most difficult are Creative Writing, Physics, and Biology (in my opinion).

This is one way to start a 40 page flame.

I didn’t mean to do that =)

Creative writing is a difficult one? I never knew.

Definitely (fill in the blank) Studies such as Communication Studies and General Studies

Fanatic said they’re the hardest. Read the whole post.

“Easiest major” is relative.

It depends on what you make of your coursework.

Currently my plan is to double major in cognitive science (concentration: neuroscience) and physical chemistry. Then minor in economics.

Also, it depends on what you mean by “communications”. If you study signals and systems, statistical models and linear algebra, in order to understand the organisation and evolution of communication systems in biology (very important you know, if you want to understand embryonic development and the gestation of multicellular organisms, as well as the evolution of cancer), or between self-interested agents in an economy (Nash equilibrium, anyone?) … you might end up with a very sophisticated paper like this.

http://www.pnas.org/cgi/reprint/96/14/8028.pdf

Now, who here wants to tackle the math?

Easiest to me: History. A lot of reading. A lot of papers. If you like it, then to me it wouldn’t be hard.

Hardest to me: Architecture.

I have a friend who majored in Bio and most of his friends were business majors. He would constantly tell me about how he would always be trapped studying and they would always go out and party, and never do work. They all have good jobs right now at various big 4 accounting firms.

I am a business major, and although its not exactly easy, I have yet to be challenged by the business classes I have taken so far.

It’s all so relative…I mean, maybe Psychology seems to be the easiest one since everyone tends to go into college claiming that it’s their major? I actually want to major in that, though, haha.

Dunno, I kind of think that English would be easy to major in, but then again I wouldn’t really know since I’m not doing that major. Perhaps I’m wrong, since it would make sense that that major would come with tons of reading and writing.

Psychology is NOT easy. The fact that it is popular does NOT make it easy.

^^Wow, did I touch a sore spot?

Hmm maybe I’m biased about it’s “easiness” since I took it in high school and am doing Psych 101 this year…:/

But yes, it really depends on what you make of it. Psych can be easy if you just do the work and don’t really pay attention to the analytical parts that make up human nature.

Talking about psychology: My college had a poster session about student summer research this week. My favorite psychology poster said something along the lines of “I did some surveys and found a positive correlation between job satisfaction and personal life satisfaction.” Who would have expected that?

Psychology can be really, ridiculously easy. Good programs are NOT easy and are extremely interesting, but it can be - and in many places, has been - turned into a joke major.

Yes, I’m quite serious when I say that Creative Writing is one of the most difficult majors at my college. You not only have to apply to declare that as a major, but you also must apply for every single class that you take–meaning you could be a senior, and not be able to finish the major, lacking only a single class if you’re not accepted into it. It’s intense, and only the best writers are able to declare and complete the major.

Um, no. I was merely pointing out that generalizations aren’t always true.

Ease of majors is VERY subjective and varies greatly from school to school. What’s easy at one school might be extremely difficult at another.

Thank you, Lumine, for saying “most places”.

It’s definitely not a joke major here.

I really didn’t know that about Creative Writing. I’m personally interested in it, but not as a major. Just as some random classes I want to take for the sake of learning.

The fact that it requires considerable talent to enter those classes worries me.
