The Elusive 1600

I contemplating putting this in the SAT forum, but decided it's more about college "admission", instead. :P

Anyhow... if one was to get a perfect 1600 (800V 800M) on their SAT, how much does that boost them in college admissions? For example, how would it effect the different scenarios of (a) a weak GPA (b) weak ECs (c) both?

What are your thoughts? Does getting a perfect on the SAT really show anything about the applicant? That they study hard, or really ARE "smart"?

People get higher than a 1600 these days....ok, bad joke.

Obviously, I mean not including the writing section (because colleges usually look at that from a subjective viewpoint, anyways)...

Why would a 1600 be better than a 1590?

It's not. Colleges will gladly select a student with good, yes "good" ECs, and a 1450 than a student with minimal ECs and 1600.

I think a high GPA/SAT combo is the best route. How adcoms interpret ECs is still a mystery to me (aside from the major hooks).

A person with a weak gpa but high SAT score may say "This person is intelligent but not hardworking" ...and I believe that it's better to be less intelligent but hardworking.

A person with weak ECs but high SAT score may say "This person is not very well rounded" or "This person should know there is more to life than studying all day" =P

A person with weak ECs and weak gpa but high SAT score would say "CHEATER!" J/K Hehe...it probably says the same as the first.
