The enclosed common recommendation forms!!

This year applicants could send the same enclosed common recommendation forms for Choate, DA, hILL, hoTCHKISS, Lawrenceville, loomis, Adover, Exeter, SPS, taft.
But I'm still wondering how applicants should do about the envelopes because if u want to apply to like 2 schools the package will contient only Enough envelopes to apply for 1 school. What it u want to apply for 2 or more?? I know u should photocopy...BUT WHAT ABOUT THE ENVELOPES?
Do U like the common forms? tell us what u seriously think about it.

Umm, use your own envelopes? I’m not sure what you’re trying to ask.

My own question about common rec. forms: ALL THE SCHOOLS PUT THEIR OWN LOGO ON IT! Can you send a form with the Andover logo to Exeter? Wouldn’t that just be weird? -freaksout-

dont do that!
its like a slap in the face to the school youre applying to

lemons.can.fly The thing is that if u apply to Andover they send u the forms u will have to send them those forms back with in their envelopes. But if u want to apply to other school I listed below U are welcom to use the photocopy of the same forms u send Andover, but i GUESS like u said by using ur own envelopes.

tennisgeek1 So r you sayin to not use the common recommadation froms?

no, im saying dont send andover papers with exeter’s seal

Email your teachers this link: [TABS: How to Apply](http://www.tabs.org/apply/forms.html)

It’s from TABS (The association of Boarding Schools) and has the common rec forms without school seals. Ask them to fill it out (it’s a PDF that you can type into) and then print out X copies for however many schools you are applying to. Give them the envelopes and ask them to put one in each, sign across the seal, and return to you (or mail directly as each school prefers).

Lindha, you have said that you are doing this without your mother’s permission. What do you plan to do about the parent statement? You can’t apply for FA without your parents on board either, and admission and FA MUST be done together. (You can’t apply, get accepted, then ask for aid.)

neatoburrito-Thxss for the info…
She will do the parent statement but without being aware is for boarding school because I’m also applyin for Day school in NY. I will just confuse her and she will believe me . Brief I do it all the time.

wow…that’s very…um…manipulative

I’d cry for days if my daughter did something like that.

Don’t trick your mother, convince her that it is right for you. You will need her help and support in this process.

Regarding envelopes and common apps, use the TABS one, as suggested and then use the edesignated envelopes that come from each individual school. Don’t forget to stamp the envelopes before you give them to teachers.

Before we gave this to teachers, we put a package together separating things out with binder clips and giving instructions so that everything was clear. It may have been overkill but it’s a lot to ask of teachers and coaches. Since schools occasionally lose forms they receive and you will not have a copy of confidential recommendations from your teachers, ask your teachers to save a copy for their file in case one on of your selected schools lose the recommendation.

Remember to be appreciative of your teachers’ time and give them several weeks to complete. After a couple weeks, do something nice for them…take in a little treat or something and remind them how much you appreciate their time. If they haven’t yet filled out the forms, that might remind them to find the time.

Good luck!

That’s so funny - in a cruel way! How do you plan to arrange the interviews? Will she be present? You are making an already tricky game more difficult. I think you’re better off asking for her support by laying out some “pre-condidtions”, E.g. only when you get an offer from what kind of schools in what area with how much FA will you attend.

In doing a program…They will take me to the interview with other students from that program without askin for our parents. So I dont really need her for that. I will sure tell her but NOT know because she will mess up things and perhaps let me wait like another 2 yrs to apply. I really want to apply this year . Get in and tell her when the facts are already there so that she wont say NO.

I’m still confuse about the TABS suggestion…I dont quite follow what u guys mean by that.

Question - Do all schools accept the TABS recommendation forms or only the ones listed on the website?

Yaa but if u are not sure about a school, call them and ask…

I’m just wondering if schools will be “offended”. Like, for example, you’re applying to Andover and 7 other schools. It’s a hassle to ask your teachers to fill out all 8 forms but won’t a world-class school like Andover (we’re just using it as an example) be kind of put off? They have their pick of who they want to accept and wouldn’t it be kind of… eh, a sign that “they’re-just-another-school”?
Okay so terrible wording, but hopefully you catch my drift. Wouldn’t the adcom of that school feel kind of… second-rate? GemmaV, if you’re still here… You would be a great help :D

To my knowledge, the Ten Schools (Andover, Exeter, Choate, Deerfield, Hill, Hotchkiss, Lawrenceville, Loomis, St. Paul’s, Taft) share recommendation forms. You can give your teacher one form from any of the Ten Schools packets, and enough pre-addressed/pre-stamped envelopes (either the ones the schools provide or your own), and ask your teacher to photocopy it the applicable number of times. The recs are exactly the same for all ten schools. All the schools have agreed to accept either the original or a photocopy. I’ve seen photocopied recs with all sorts of school seals (i.e. not Hogwarts) on top. Doesn’t offend me. I know teachers’ time is valuable.

What if you are applying to some of the Ten Schools and some other schools, what recommendation forms do you use? (TABS or the Ten Schools)

@ GemmaV: Thanks so much! Wow, that was fast, haha.

Does anyone know where I can find these TSAO recommendations… Or do I just go on, say, Deerfield’s website and take their rec forms and use them for all the TSAO schools I’m applying to?
Thanks again. :D

I am not 100% sure, but I think the TABS forms are the same as the Ten Schools ones. But yes, DiveAlive, you can go to Deerfield’s website, take their rec forms, and use them for any or all of the Ten Schools to which you are applying.

Does anybody know if all recommendations (english & math especially) have to be from current teachers?
