The "Engineering in 4 years or else ..." problem

Greetings CALers,

My two dream schools, for different reasons, have always been Cal and UCLA. Now, I applied to both engineering (EECS Cal, CSE UCLA) but was hoping to double major in eco once I arrived.

How feasible is a double major (on top of EECS) at Cal? If I can't finish both majors in 4 years, will they kick me into extension courses and knock the B.S. down to a B.A.?

Any input (enlightenment at this point) is appreciated.

Engineers have a lot of breadth requirements which you can use for another major if you want. Its not too difficult, but if you want to do well in eecs it will probably take up a lot of your time.

Emphasis on probably. As this guy proved::

<a href="http://www.berkeley.edu/news/media/releases/2003/05/05_ankar.shtml%5B/url%5D">http://www.berkeley.edu/news/media/releases/2003/05/05_ankar.shtml</a></p>

If you're super smart, you can do EECS + another major + ECs and do it perfectly.

The Econ major and minor is very accommodating. You can fit a good chunk of an Econ minor into the Engineering elective. Summer school made tacking the Econ minor to my engineering degree a cinch.

An econ minor doesn't exist at Cal (probably did back in your days CalX, but not anymore).

so what happens if i dont finish my engineering degree in 4 years?

a girl i know finished EE at UCB in 2.5 years. She got a job and is going to law school at night.
