The English Thread for ACT December 2009

what the title saysss

trace in
or
trace into?

what was the sentence/story?

do you remember the sentence?

I have no clue which question you guys are talking about.

The English section is always super easy for me…Finished with like 10 minutes to go :D

from that point ahead or from that point?

point ahead was wrong

“trace to” a single origin
point ahead was indeed wrong

phew, got that one.

Stalin article did not emphasize other post ww2 effors, so no? I believe that was C

Was the first sentence of a passage that said something like “It was 1948.” A commplete sentence or not?

And what was the one that couldn’t be used between showed up and to be played out in that same passage?

I put no as well, because it only discussed one humanitarian effort in particular.

“It was 1948.” complete sentence, yes

“showed up” was the answer

I put showed up. I thought it was a sentence, so I put “It was 1948. A…”

In the 3 plants passage after the line about cooperation and harmony there was a question like…

Which the Incas knew, blah…

Was it which or as? Or one of the other two choices?

showed up was correct.
1948 was complete
i also put no because it only talked about one humanitarian effort
idk what question the trace one is still…

did anyone get ‘whom’ for any of their answers? I didn’t… and did anyone get any semicolons?

showed up was correct.
1948 was complete

idk what question the trace one is still…

did anyone get ‘whom’ for any of their answers? I didn’t… and did anyone get any semicolons?

Anyone remember the who and whom question?

yeah i got who for everything…didn’t get a single whom.

I put “No Change” on that one…I was tempted to go with the sentence with two “whoms” but it didn’t really sound right to me, so I said screw it and went with my instincts.

there was one question on the three sisters passage and it was something about the corn helping the beans then a comma and then “while the beans did blah blah blah, fertilizing the corn.”
so:
“corn helps beans blah blah, while beans do blah blah, fertilizing the corn.”
and the choices were
A. no change
B. corn helps beans blah blah. While beans do blah…
C. corn helps beans blah blah; while beans do blah…
D. corn helps beans blah blah, beans do blah blah…

lol does anyone remember what they put? I was SO stuck between A and D and I erased my answer like five times
