Well said, Hazmat. I'm sending my children to private school, not for the end goal of getting into Harvard, but to get a top education, both in and out of the classrom. I live in a typical suburban community, and by far, the local private schools are more diverse, offer a more enriched curriculum, even without the typical long list of AP classes offered in the public school. In my area at least, the courses in the private schools are so rigorous, they don't have to be called "honors" or "AP" to be high-level courses. I have also found sports at the private school to be top-notch, where all students are encouraged to participate, regardless of ability. This has set the foundation for my children to be strong not only academically, but also athletically, which makes for the type of well-rounded students top colleges seem to value.
