I'm applying to boarding school for several reasons.
Even though where I live has top-notch private schools, boarding school appeals to me so much more. It's not always about getting into an Ivy League...
I love the idea of living in a dorm. To live down the hall from your best friend, or even your worst enemy! To have a sense of community with a group of people, something that transcends 'acquaintances', or 'friends'...thats an aspect that I love about boarding school.
The diversity is definitely a plus. I myself, being Haitian-American would like to meet people from other cultures, than from where I live in.
The teachers. At my school, the teachers are nice, but after 3, they're just another stranger in the crowd. At the schools I'm applying to, most of the teachers have an open door policy. That's important to me.
The fact that I'm in a competitive environment. I'm the type of person who does well under pressure. If I'm at a school where I get straight As, and am valedictorian (like I am now), I'm bored, and not doing the best of my ability. If I'm at a school where I have to actually work hard to get where I set my goals, it'll give me a sense of accomplishment, something that I couldn't get here.
So yeah... that's why I want to go to boarding school...
My Exeter, Choate, and Hotchkiss applications are officially complete! It feels sooo good to have that done. Unfortunately, Andover's isn't done. I think I finish that during Winter Break....
