So what do you guys think? (And why? Their stats are nearly identical! It's amazing!)

Davis...because the campus is prettier and because Irvine has too much traffic.

irvine is beautiful
voted safest city in the u.s.
SOUTH COAST PLAZA...need i say more
BEACH
davis = aggies = cows = smell

irvine is amazing and yeah deff better than davis

I'm choosing UCD because it's closer to home but I'd love to hear more opinions regarding the two!

I like the proximity of Davis to the Silicon Valley. (Internships, anyone?)

surfer_bum58: I live in the Central Valley... that'll get you scared of Aggies real fast. (An old girlfriend's pig tried to sleep with me.) So I can sympathize. Also, I'm going to be in Irvine on Mon./Tues. of next week. Beautiful, eh? I'm hold you to that. :-)

blueprints is right. Any more opinions?

ucd is older more respected, and uci gives cali kids admission for certain gpa's w\out having to apply.... ucd does not. its stronger rep in the end.

Admission without applying? Really? Interesting. Do you know where I can find information of that?

A recent thread on this very topic:

its called like ecd or somethign its for hish school students (seniors) in california who are in the top 4% of their high school class... u get a letter saying ucsb and uci want u blah blah. so in the end u have to check them off on the uc app. but its guaranteed admission.

uci is better, and is getting increasingly better. go there.

I agree; UCD. I like the bike-riding going on there. :) Gets you more active --> more energy used --> more fit. :)

mguyen: How is UCI improving? I keep hearing that, and it sounds like a plus, but nobody's been too forthcoming with details.

syneria: I do like the bikes. :-)

irvine = rising academically, nice/new campus, nice/new city. socal!

davis = boring, small college town, smells horrible, etc.

gnn: both Irvine and Davis accept 90+% of elc applicants. The only reason Irvine is one of the four elc 'guarantee' schools is that is has a lot of room for expansion, and will add several thousand kids over the next decade. Nevertheless, Davis is growing, too.

Davis has a better college feel. Irvine has more of a commuter school feel since some kids rent house in Newport Beach and commute to campus.

Both are growing rapidly -- expect Irvine to be an up and comer.

UCI is probably better & safer because the surrounding is a small town & it's like 5-10 min. away from the business sector

Irvine all the way....10minutes from the beach, 45minutes from Los Angeles 45minutes from San Diego. Geography aside.... alot of companies work closely with UCI and offer alot of tuition reimbursement options. Iternships are abundant in many different industires..medical..real estate...financial..political etc. And yes there is alot to be said about the city of Irvine, it is one of the safest cities in the country, which is a very important factor.

uci is better now, and in 20 years will be significantly better.

... it is one of the safest cities in the country, which is a very important factor.<<

It's pretty safe compared to say, Santa Ana, but the comparison here is to Davis - a very safe, small town.

UC Davis: not even close. UCD will be well ahead of UCI by 2010. UCD had a reporting error this year and would be tied or ahead of UCI without the error. UCD has a ton of potential growth, such as the move to D1 athletics and the boatload of $ that generates (UCI and UCD are at the same level now and UCI has been D1 for a while...) That plus the true college town atmosphere, the friendly people and environment, and the school spirit means you can't go wrong at UC Davis!!!

UCI doesnt have school spirit..friendly people? As far as being safe..Irvine is STILL a safer city than Davis.

I think it comes down to a Pepsi or Coke preference...lol
