Schedule of Classes: Office of the Registrar: Indiana University Bloomington

I made my shopping cart yesterday! Hopefully things will work out by the time it’s my turn to enroll. So far, my schedule has no Friday classes. Crossing my fingers!

Leila, how did you work it? I’m a little confused on how to construct and organize my schedule.

Under OneStart, go to Student Center. Click “Search for classes” on the upper right-hand corner.

Choose “Bloomington” under institution, and “Fall 2011” under term.

Then, choose a course subject and course number. Click “Search”

When you find the class section you want, click “Select class”

Since you cannot enroll yet, there should be a green button that says “Add to shopping cart.” Click that, and the class will be saved to your shopping cart so you can easily enroll in it come your time to register.

Hey, thanks! I appreciate it!

Just a word of advice for any freshmen on this board: Last year, D3 was ready to register on her appointed day, only to find out her advisor had put a hold on her reigistration because D3 had not scheduled an advising appointment prior to her registration. D3 was in University Division at the time; I don’t know if that policy applied to others outside of UD. You may want to double check.

The orientation link below does not mention anything about making an appointment with the advisor. Is it something to be arranged when a student reserves the orientation?

Also, it sounds like advisor’s recommendation is for reference only. Advisors do not approve the courses registered by a student after the advising session, right?

I’m guessing Hoosiermom is referencing not being able to register in November for the current Spring semester.

First day activities at orientation include placement tests. Second day activities are pretty much limited to seeing the advisor, who recommends classes after seeing placement scores and interviewing the student, then registering. You don’t have to make an appointment to see an advisor, everyone has to see an advisor and you will be notified of the time.

Advisors may have the ability to hold up your ability to register, but students decide which classes they want. Students don’t actually have to sign up for classes the advisor recommends, but it is usually a good idea to do that. Advisors do not take responsibility for what they recommend, if they happen to make a mistake, so it is best that you yourself learn what you need to take.

No, actually it was last spring for fall classes (just texted D to ask). But it was the Honor’s college advisor that put the hold on. I didn’t remember that part. The University Division advisor in her dorm told her that technically she (advisor) could override the hold but wouldn’t because she thought D should talk to the Honor’s College advisor before registering. So D did and despite the delay, D got into every class she wanted.
