Hey guys! Congrats to those that got in. Guys..personally I am shocked I got deferred....I have a lowly 1220. Honestly, is this significant....did they see something interesting in me but were reluctant to accept me because of my scores. I mean...people with crazy 1500s get deferred...not 1220s! In any case, I am going to do a rigorous test prep because I now have the chance. My 1220 was from a few years ago so I expect my score to naturally increase a bit. My goal is a 1350. Do you guys suspect that they see soemthing amusing about me...come on a 1220. Anyway, I will be polishing my essays and resume..... I WILL DO THIS.

dont get your hopes up apfreak. out of the 1000 kids or so (plus) deferred this EA, another 10,000 (plus) apply...out of thouse that apply they take 1,000 kids...thats less than 10%..

dude, getting deferred is a way of saying you're rejected in a kind way. They just keep your hopes up by making the decision in March. No offense.

rock on apfreak!!!!!

you got deffered because your stats suck

apfreak youre crazy, but you really want this and i really respect that. you go get that 1350! you can do it

Exactly....my stats DO suck. However, they are the lowest on the Harvard board and if I can drastically increase them (because it has been over a year since I have taken the SAT) by actually sitting my arse down and preping for the SAT i can increase my score big time. My school is even offer some new class as well. Guys there has to be a difference between a 1220 deferral and a 1500 deferral. Some quality must distinguish me so that I am not REJECTED outright. I know I sound a bit frantic and obsessive but there ust be a reason and I, more determined than EVER, intend to see how is to come of this. LET's DO THIS GUYS!!!!!!

I believe they only reject people who are laughably below standards.

A 1220 is not laughably below standards. DHA by far had better scores than me AND he was low income with many AP classes and good AP scores yet they surprisingly rejected him. HOW? WHY? He is also Hispanic.

MY SCORES SUCK. Something must have kept me on the edge.

mmmmmm.. maybe that 100 dollars worked......:) (just kidding)

Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Duke, Cornell, John Hopkins, University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth and maybe Columbia.

I probably will only apply to the first 6 though which will cost a hefty 400 bucks that I DO NOT HAVE :(.

I am working on getting an appeal letter as we speak (or type). I will write new, compelling, and risky essays and will prep likE CRAZY for the new SAT. I will add to my resume.

Dude....I cannot believe they did not take you.....WHY WHY?

Our CC party has beem torn apart....this is quite a melancholic day.

DHA is really really bitter about this.

I respect you, apfreak- I like your determination. But, there are a few things bothering me.

I don't like how you use other person's stats to compare with yours. I think it's rude. In fact, if I were DHA, I would be ****ed off.

I also don't like how obsessive you are with Harvard. Of course Harvard is a great school, but it's not everything. You must realize there are so many amazing schools that have same opportunities as Harvard does. Why do you want to get in Harvard so badly? Do you think you can handle all the work given by Harvard? People can do undergraduate at state schools and get in Ivy graduate schools. I think it's important to do well in college, no matter what its reputation or ranking is. I just feel that you are so close-minded that you are not looking at other schools.

Sorry for being harsh. But, I had to say something after reading your posts.

DO NOT apply to a lot of ivies. It will ruin you. I knew a really bright kid who applied to 7 ivies - got flat out rejected by all of them. They do consider this, you know.

And really, deferral sucks, but it's better than a rejection and there will be other schools that are great for you for sure, even if you don't make it to Harvard. :)

No I am not putting DHA down. I am utterly shocked that he was not ACCEPTED. I am in reality putting myself down because I think he had a better chance cuz of better SAT stats. I consider myself lucky...that's all. They like something....and it could not have only been that 100 bucks. :)

ap freak you're the man

seriously you're awesome

i suggest the princeton review sat book for the new sat...its pretty good

you might wnat to apply to some state schools (just to be safe) but keep your head up and keep trying, you've got the right spirit

Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Duke, Cornell, John Hopkins, University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth and maybe Columbia.

Those are great schools, but they are reaches for everyone. Hope you've added some matches and safeties. Best of luck as you move forward.

I am not offended by APfreak. I KNEW what he was going through, so I understand his concern. Do your best to reverse that decision. However... I still stand by what I said... Harvard can go die.

Ouch for Harvard!:)

If everyone with low income and minorities got into Harvard, it wouldn't be Harvard.

Sorry.

APfreak is awesome. I've never seen such sheer determination from anybody. I, on the other hand, am stopping all applications (even though I was deferred). I have decided to enjoy senior year, and enjoy a year with friends. I think I'll call Harvard and tell them that if I were accepted, I would defer a year (I hear that can actually help you).
