The Fence Thread: UCLA+Berkeley

I think your on the fence for UCLA economics, but so am I. Just remember that in the past individuals got on with 3.57 and 3.68 and the lists goes on. I think you have a good shot at Cal with your recommended courses completed.

@corinnejay

How many foreign language classes have you taken?

I took 3 years in high school of french, and I’m in the third quarter of spanish now for college. I put the three years in high school on my update though.

ucla
Major: cognitive science (ucla accepts people into this major with gpa’s around 3.4)
GPA: 3.45 with an upward trend, but i do have 3 c’s…
EC: volunteering, internship with psychologist
IGETC: done, but I have no TAP
Prereqs: all but one will be done by spring
Essays: decent, about 7 to 8/10
not sure if i have no chance at all, or a possible sliver of a chance of getting in…at least i got into ucsd already

How does one know if he/she’s on the fence?

It’s simply means being close, with .2 of last years gpa, on the negative side of course.

@corinnejay

I would say you have a considerably better chance than I do. Although I have a higher GPA (4.0), I’m missing the second semester of calculus, and for foreign language, I only explained that I speak a second language.

Good luck

With that GPA though I’m sure you still have a pretty solid shot.

anything can happen, you never know.

I’m sure you got into UCSD no matter what, which is an amazing school regardless.

At least its only 2 1/2 weeks wait for all the UCs decisions to be out.

Major: Sociology
GPA: 3.93
TAP/TAG: No
EC: average
Prereqs: completed by spring
IGETC: completed by spring
Essays: 8/10

Applied: Berkeley, UCLA, UCI

Good luck to everyone, just 16 more days until berkeley !

@ AwesomeStudent LOL @ SDSU. Thats rediculous, you’re going to be some where exponentially better so be stoked!

Major: Psychology
GPA: 4.0
TAP/TAG: No
EC: above average
Prereqs: completed by spring
IGETC: completed by spring
Essays: 7/10

Applied: Berkeley, UCLA, Davis(got in already)

I’m still legitimately worried about Berkeley.

in what way is a 4.0 with above average ECs, all prereqs and IGETC done “on the fence” ?

haha agreed. No offense, and congrats on the 4.0 but this isn’t really the place to post amazing stats. We see those posts constantly and get screwed up in the head by them, thats why this thread was created. Please allow one thread for the people who legitamately have to worry about their stats, and just leave it alone unless you’re going to chance or give advice.

IE- Myself
3.56
Major-Poly Sci
EC’s-Good
Essays- 8/10
IGETC- Done
Pre-reqs- Done besides that one weird stats requirement for la (poly sci majors know what I mean)
More of a reach, but I’m praying for LA.
Berkeley… haha well not much has to be said. (I’d die)

Random blurb (bump!):

When the Berkeley Rep came down to Southern California, particularly where I live, one of my Honors Seminar classmate talked to them and they told him he was in. I have NO idea how that happened, but he’s pretty confident and I freaking wish I went to go see them…but I was out of the country. :confused: If he does get in then those Reps need to learn how to close their mouths. :/

Well, for the record, Psychology only has an 18% acceptance rate. Were I applying to any other major, I wouldn’t fret at all. Political Science, for example has above a 50% acceptance rate. However, I think for Psychology, and perhaps business, 4.0’s are still on the fence.

But thanks for the encouragement :)

^
Thanks for the information, holy moly, I’m a Psychology major >__<;;

Ohh good info RileyJohn. Also I didn’t see that you didn’t have Tap, I should have read your post closer before responding like that. And I didn’t know that Psych was so competitive! I’d say that 4.0 makes you look pretty good but with competition like that it’s hard to say.

JW- Why did you only give yourself 7/10 on essays? It seems pretty hard to gauge our essays just because we have nothing much to compare to. Do you think you’re being hard on yourself?

@RileyJohn

I think if you pre-reqs are above average and have something in common with your major. You’ll probably hop the fence over to Berkeley. Good luck.

I’m sure JW got some great essays, some paranoia always helps get good grades and better essays.

I’ve got a kinda unrelated question, anyone have any idea how many more years UCSD will have TAG?
