The Fence Thread: UCLA+Berkeley

Thats a great question, but you probably wont get many answers on this thread because of the title. Perhaps you should start a thread for that on its own. Either way, I’m curious about that as well…

My brother got into UCB as a transfer psych major with about a 3.6 in 2006. I’m sure his ECs wernt thar great but he is a witty and brilliant writer so I’m sure his essays were fantastic.

UCB Psych! yee yeah. lol…but I chickened out and applied phil.

after seeing everyone stats, not much hope to get into UCB lol. :frowning: least i have ucsd. :(

Haven’t seen any English majors on this yet !
So here goes, chance me, plox, for Bezerkeley.

Major: English Literature

GPA: 3.76

IGETC: Finishing spring 2010

TAP/ TAG: UCLA. Nothing for Berkeley.

PREREQS: For LA, 3/4. Berkeley, 0/4.
So the thing is, I originally planned to transfer to LA as my first choice and had a change of heart. Now focusing on getting into Berkeley. My CC only offers 1/4 of the major prereqs I need (a class I’ll have finished end of spring), but for the 3 that are not articulated, I am taking classes extremely similar. All will be finished by end of spring.

Essays: 9/10 and 8/10 (****, I’m an English major. It’d be pretty bad if they weren’t good…)

Okay. So nervewracking.
BE BRUTALLY HONEST PLEASE.

That lack of prereqs is going to hurt you pretty badly, theres no other local community colleges? where do you live?

@corinnejay

I live in a suburb of Los Angeles, Walnut? Two streets down from the nearest community college, Mt. Sac. I honestly wasn’t prepared to transfer to Berkeley and regardless, I don’t believe Berkeley will penalize me because my school does not offer the major prereqs. I emailed a dean of the English Department there and he said that it doesn’t hurt. Especially if I have substitutional courses that could possibly count for the courses not articulated.

God, I’m so nervous. I did all that I could, honestly.

We’ll at least your GPA still good. Would you prefer UCLA or UCB?

I heard that if your college does not offer those prerequisites, it will not hurt you.

Cyrstal your look like you should get over the fence into Berkeley. Pre-reqs may be bad, but its unrealistic that they would punish you

I think you have above 50% for sure.

@ Crystal: I applied for philosophy. 0/3 prereqs done…none offered as well. Took 2 phil classes and got A’s. The UCB rep said I had a great chance (GPA: 3.74).

You won’t be punished for your lack of prereqs as you really had little to no choice. I clarified this with the UCB rep as well. I would say that you’re in. 75-80%.

I’m definitely on the fence for UCB. I got a 3.33 at my first college (UO) and a 4.0 from the CCC I’m going to now so I don’t know what my overall GPA is but it looks really low in comparison to everyone else. But I have IGETC done and all my prereqs and good EC and essay.
Anyone think I have a chance at UCB?

^^^^^^What is your major?

Sorry History :)

How many units did you have at each college? With an 18% admit rate, even a 4.0 would be a gamble, so I have to say it’s probably not likely. Sorry.

^Any of the fence people get in so far?

Probably below the fence, but hey…

Political Science
3.5
Pre Reqs/IGETC done
Essay: 8/10

UCLA TAP admit.

Pre-reqs done Fall 09, IGETC done by this spring.
125 qtr units (~81 sem)

ehh the wait is killing me. Time you go so slowly

I don’t know the stats for development majors (does anyone know anything of?) so I’m kind of just anticipating decisions. But I didn’t get into UCLA as my first choice major even with my GPA… That worries me for Berkeley.

GPA: 3.83
Major: Development studies
IGETC/Reqs: All finished
