This may be a bit off-topic, but apfreak, I admire your enthusiasm for joining that specific organization. When deciding to apply, I researched more academic-related things and honestly don't know that much about organizations on campus.
Though I think I'd most likely join CONTACT and BOND.

Vivo....I disagree...they actually compare you to your school and what you were given....how do you think the girl from compton got in

Thanks Candlize....I am sure someone who appears to be smart yet sophisticated in a mature way can get in. I hope they ALSO admire my desire to partake in those THREE organizations. They have their "cues" in my recs and my interview. Also, I made it quite apparent to my admissions officer from florida. I don't want to seem obssessed, but I really want to join a POWERFUL organization to continuw what I have been doing in high school....but....:) to a whole new level!

Oh, no--I wasn't saying it was good for Harvard admissions to come out of a bad school.

It just seemed like you were saying that because you came out of a school with these kind of averages that it was more acceptable to have lower scores.

And it surprised me when I looked at my own school, where the top students usually score at least a couple of perfects on some of the SATI/SATII, and that it was comparable to the averages at your school.

In my school the highest ever achieve was a 1590...but he is a crazy anamoly....no one has ever come close to him...sadly his other involvements were not as stellar....but just the sheer might of his scores got him into Duke and U of Penn.....but stupid money was an issue and he had to attend the respectable UF....my safety school thats big on AP classes and RANK ...not scores.

apfreak, my schools kinda the opposite of yours. We put a lot of emphasis on the SATs/APs/IBs as a measure because we have a very strong IB program. The thirty or so kids who are in the IB program all have about the same grades and the same classes so it becomes difficult to distinguish between the top fifteen or so. The difference between being ranked first and being ranked in the mid-tens are decimal points.

Same at my school too although moreso in the lower ranks. My friend has a 5.50 and another friend a 5.54 and there are like 10 people between them in HS class rank.

apfreak... by now i can recite your stats and extra currics from memory...

me 2 (10character)

not quite....I left out A LOT of things that matter....so nice try! :)

Like what?

he wouldn't leave out anything impressive...

I think your chance is not that great. (I'm sorry to say this.)

Filmxoxo17....I have....and things mentioned that seem mundane are actually a big deal in my community....it is hard to SHOW you how neat they are on the web...and I lack the patience to write it all up...but my recs and interview definitely highlight them for adcoms...

ANYWAY...

sophy....yeah...chances probably slim...BUT why did DHA_3000 say that I will most likely get in based on "A is for Admissions"...that is really bothering me...what does that book say? ANYONE?

it said they make allowances for URMs that they wouldn't make for others.

Apfreak, you would probably get more honest opinions about your chances for admittance if you didn't criticize everybody who thinks your a long shot. We understand that we haven't read your recs so we're not getting the app that Harvard will see. Just accept cc'ers opinions about your chances and understand that none of us really know, but it doesn't help to deny your shortcomings because you can bet the admissions officers won't.

That being said I hope you get in man. You seem really passionate about the school and your academic development. I wish you the best of luck Apfreak. Also, I'm not sure how the quality of your school effects your chances. Sure it shows that you had few opportunities, but at the same time doesn't it indicate that your competition for your class rank wasn't that strong? I only ask cuz I'm in a similar position.

Your school offers 12 APs? That's a lot. How many do u want man?

Also, a ~900 - 1000 SAT avg is more or less average. Much better than schools where few kids even take the SAT/ACT.

The competition was ...okay....there is this one guys who has been valedictorian for over three years but in the end I finally passed him! He has been "THE" competition at my school. There is competition but when you compare it to my insanity in course taking it will NOT seem like ranking is competitive. Seriously, of the 12 APs I have crammed in 13 in a block schedule...something not fathomable to many in my school and community. I am not gloating because..um..I have not much not gloat about without getting SLAMMED...violently in the face with the SAT/ACT...so ya knoe...:(.

Hey but I am not criticizing the people that say I have bad chances...I just ask that they look at the WHOLE "chance thread" ...maybe I should have put the SAT/ACT scores last so that won't bias opinions from the start.

Thanks for everyone who bids be luck. I can only hope that the big H-Bomb...um ...no reference to the magazine organization....can see that I have used everyTHANG and more of what is offered to be. Also as a hispanic ...hopefully they will see that I take culture to the next level...not just the URM label but enhancement and empowerment!

anyway...not to be dramatic...but Dec 14 is imminent.....dun dun dun!!

hey apfreak i was wondering what are your scores in those 13 ap classes

do you have like a mix of 5's and 4's or are you getting 2's and 1's. Also WHAT classes are they. Are they Us History, Chemistry, and Calculus, or are they Economics, Statistics, and Human Geogrophy

I think that matters more over just the sheer number of AP's

but yay dec14 is gonna be one hell of a day for EVERYONE on the boards.

apfreak, i think u should go watch harry potter or something. get ur mind off harvard. its seriously unhealthy for u.

If u get in, rock on. If not, at least you'll have another life to fall back on.
