The Final Chance

yipee. i guessed correctly.

Asian - not Oriental. Oriental sounds like an old unwanted antique.

Let this thread die, please.

It's Alive!!! It's Alive!!!!

apfreak, can you speak Spanish fluently? That might help you.

apfreak doen't known an ounce of spanish.

tsk tsk tsk

spanish heritage is your biggest commitment and you dont speak espanol?

Por favor senor! Harvard no te gusta. No podras entrar!

(My spanish stinks, i hope its correct)

^*Harvard no te gustas (your literally saying "you don't pleasure Harvard").

*No podras MATRICULAR

Wait, is being white and being able to speak Spanish fluently helpful? I also know how to read and write Italian. (Sorry, off topic I know.

Hey, every little but helps. I'm black and I can speak Spanish fluently. Also at an intermediate level in Japanese.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you learn your Spanish, running?

I DO know spanish...where is thiscoming from? I am NOT a native speaker but that is NOT my fault...however, I am constantly learning Spanish. I understand it well (reading, listening)..just the writing and speaking which is a bit more diffucult. A language and culture/heritage are two separate yet related things. It does not make me any less hispanic as you people have the audacity to imply!

Amnesia! :( ....stop

NO G8 SN...****in' me off man....I WILL KILL YOU! ;)

ya know...I know a way to get into Harvard....hunt down and kill most applicants to the school...:)...assuming I could evade the law...

better watch out....

I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER!

With your mom........:)

Since I was a kid, I've lived around Hispanic immigrants and just kind of picked up the language... started speaking it on my own. I knew a little about writing it, but high school is when I learned the most about writing it. My SAT II score, though, doesn't completely reflect this (I use ALOOOOOT of coloquialisms and slang. Plus, if I made mistakes, no one really ever corrected them because they knew what I was talking about). My AP test and teacher rec will reflect this better (read the rec, and my expected AP test grade is 5).

awesome!
I'm kind of the same situation you are in (living around immigrants, starting on my own, and learning proper ways mainly through school), but I perfected my Spanish when I studied abroad in Spain this past summer, and thus ended up doing very well on the SAT II. Good luck to you!

This thread is still going? Jesus....

Give it a rest dude-getting rejected by Harvard isn't the end of the world.

You went to Spain? No fair :( . I have no money to do that, LOL. Sounds awesome. Maybe they'll take pity that I haven't been able to experience the world? LOL

Anywho, good luck to you, too!

"It does not make me any less hispanic as you people have the audacity to imply!"

Actually, if you didn't speak spanish, it would make you less of a Hispanic. A lot less to be exact. This is because language is a huge part of every culture. After all, language in many ways reflects the culture it eminates from. For example, euphemisms, the specific sounds of a language (harsher, more gutteral sounds of the germanic languages vs. the more elegant sounds of the romance languages (reflecting the attitude of the ppl speaking them), etc...

Speaking spanish is NOT a preresquisite to being a hispanic!

Actually, the definition of Hispanic has everything to do with the Spanish language.

Hispanic, from the Census Bureau:

One who speaks or is descended from one who speaks the Spanish language.

So, technically, TECHNICALLY, someone who speaks Spanish but is not Latin could be classified as Hispanic. Though, in reality, the way people see it is if you're a white boy who speaks Spanish, you're a white boy who speaks Spanish, and if you're a Hispanic that doesn't know a lick of Spanish you're still Hispanic.

It is when you ARE a hispanic and NEGLECT the culture/customs (and yes that means the language as well...) then you should be considered a "fake" hispanic. It is not my fault that I am not a native speaker and I have tried to learn it as best as I can...up in NYC many youth do not know spanish as native speakers as well. I know much about my culture and heritage and take pride and have passion in being who I am. There is nothing more that ****es me off then the direction this thread is leading to. You can be highly critical of my scores or look down upon whatever about my profile but lay off the race thing.

DROP THIS TOPIC NOW!

LOL, okay. But if it makes you feel any better. I generally classify hispanics as those who are either:

a) Fresh out of Latin America.
b) Look Latino to me.
