The Final Countdown.

i think the beauty of duke’s political scene is that it is quite balanced unlike similar schools such as columbia where it’s either “be donkey or die.” (okay it’s not that extreme there, but you get the point hahaha). Duke’s student body, while generally liberal, is pretty balanced in terms of political views. people don’t judge and while you’re going to encounter “oppressive” people at all schools, it’s not going to be MORE at duke. feel free to be yourself :)

and as for your concerns about the whole polo thing… i’m a duke student and am far from that. and so are my friends hahah. schools like penn and duke are going to have their fair share of preppy kids (yeah, every one has their rich kids…), but to be honest, most kids aren’t going to flash around what they’ve got. people sit around in shorts/sweats to study in the duke gardens ( soooo pretty holy cow), etcetc. don’t worry about not fitting in, really. for some reason, duke gets hit with the “preppy, rich kid” stereotype for some inexplainable reason…

if you have any concerns about duke, just hit me up. it’s a great place and i feel that since the other schools you are applying to are so similar (dartmouth and penn), you’d enjoy it.

thank you! it was a beautiful place and some of the nicest people i know are heading down there from my school. if duke accepts me, then it’s definitely going to be one of my top priorities.

I think anything I may have against the school is based on stereotypes of the southern schools in general. That, and durham is pretty scary.

also, bagels, i was actually reading up on the huntsman program the other day. it seems perfect, but i really don’t think it’s a realistic option for me. it’s comforting to know that i can still be considered for the college if denied huntsman

ChasingStarlight - glad you made a decision, but you better get a map out of New Orleans and educate yourself as to its geography. Tulane is not in any ghetto, not anywhere close. It’s in what’s known as the Garden District, surrounded by $1Million+ southern mansions and just across the street from a city park the size of Central Park with an 18-hole golf course. So please, careful with the “ghetto” talk, coming from an obviously uninformed perspective.

I was talking about Duke and UCB, which are in not so hot areas of town but are still great schools.

i would hardly call berkeley ghetto; it’s true that the city is directly north of oakland but the campus itself is a pretty desirable area and safe as long as you don’t walk around alone at night.

the berkeley campus itself is pretty awesome. i went onto it at night and there were like sculptures and lights – it was a pretty sight.
