So, I was rejected/waitlisted at all of my top choices and now I am trying to figure out where to go based on the great options I do have. I am wondering whether I should go to a school with good merit $$ which will open more doors financially in the future (I didn't get much need based aid) or a school that is more prestigious that will open doors academically as an undergraduate. I think all the options are pretty good (though all are VERY different), but I'd like to hear some opinions on my school choices. I am considering an economics/poli sci major and I am planning on grad school in the future. At first I was leaning towards a smaller school, but with an honors program I feel like I can get that atmosphere at almost any of these schools any thoughts on this?

Villanova (prob honors, no $)
Ohio State (honors, full tuition scholarship)
Colby (no $)**
University of Vermont (honors, some $)
Fordham (full tuition scholarship)**
Northeastern (honors, full tuition scholarship)**
University of Oklahoma (honors, national merit scholar, complete scholarship +study abroad +computer)

Any thoughts/help/imput is appreciated.
THANKS!

Bear in mind that taking a full tuition scholarship still will cost you $10-14,000 / year with room, board, fees, books, travel, incidentals, etc. Unless one of your waitlists comes through, Oklahoma is worth thinking seriously about. Their National Merit Scholar program is unbelievable.

Fordham housing is expensive. I would consider Oklahoma. If not then Ohio State, because cost of living in NYC vs Columbus is HUGE. Things being the way they are I would go to Oklahoma.

You know I know it wasn’t your dream school, but CONGRATULATIONS, that Oklahoma offer is pretty tremendous, especially with the study abroad, housing etc. It shows they really want you and that means a lot. You EARNED that and you will be treated well there. Go for it. Debt free graduation a computer and the opportunity to study abroad. WOW! Good Job.

I would pick Fordham. I think it is a school on the rise with a wonderful core education and more of a personal touch than some of the state schools. It’s location also provides access to internships and jobs in NYC.

Northeastern is great for political science. I am a junior year, had Dukakis last semester and am getting published for research this summer. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. Also with co op you can work for the CIA/DIA/FBI, the UN, senators office, Law firms.

If you like the University of Oklahoma, I would choose that. However, if it’s not somewhere you want to go, don’t force yourself. I got a similar offer (National Merit, right?) but it was to a U in Texas, and, even with all the AMAZING perks, I couldn’t make myself do it (to my mom’s disappointment… she carried their scholarship letter around with her for a week!).

Otherwise, I would suggest Fordham or Northeastern. Both will be a relatively inexpensive option and both are in wonderful cities!

If, however, you have money to throw away… Villanova would be my first choice, all other things being equal.

You have some wonderful choices! Congratulations and Good Luck!
