Chances, please!

Also, is my school list well-rounded enough? Any suggestions for modifying it?

Thank you!

Apply to Brown ED since its the Ivy and you stats are amazing. I’d suggest to put more Ivy’s and other top school’s on your list because your scores are superb.

WOW!! I’m extremely jealous!! I’m sensing a lot of big envelopes come April!

Brown is the only Ivy that I’ll probably apply to, but thanks for the encouragement. Would someone mind comparing my chances early decision vs. regular decision at Brown and Carleton?

Bump…

Lol, this always happens to me…

ED at Brown, definitely. I can’t see you NOT getting in.

I think you need to expand the list. You have a solid chance of getting into a top 10ish school, and I think you should add schools to hedge the bet. If Brown, Williams, or Pomona don’t work out the rest of the schools are less selective, even Carleton.

Natural additions are Dartmouth (basically its Williams + Brown), Amherst (Williams with other colleges nearby). Also Northwestern (similar to WashU) and Middlebury (very similar to Williams). My biggest regret in high school was not applying to enough colleges. I applied to 7 and while I got into some great schools (Columbia and Northwestern), I would have given anything to have applied to Amherst and Dartmouth.

Brown (ED/RD)
Carleton (ED/RD)
Connecticut College
Kenyon
Pomona (maybe)
WashU
Williams
Indiana University

Haha, thanks for the suggestions, slipper…those were all actually on my list at some point.

If anyone has specific chances for each school, that would be fantastic.

Again…

I’d say you’re probably in at all of 'em. You’re an extraordinary applicant. Damn I wish I had that ACT/SAT score.

HAHAHA you chanced me for Carleton, so I come here to take a look at your stats and return the favor and I see… wow you have AMAZING STATS there girlie and I’m totally jealous of your national writing awards. Brown and Carleton are really different schools though, so why are you looking to ED at those places? Just curious.
I think you can definitely get into Carleton in no time, and you have a really good shot at Brown. I know kids with far worse stats than you get in.

Bump…

Almost definitely in everywhere but brown, and you stand a fighting chance there.

If I could get a few more specific chances (reach/match/safety or percentages if you prefer) I promise I’ll stop bumping!

… :/

Thanks for chancing me . . . somewhat. (Yes, I know I was rather vague, but I’ve added updates if you’d like to try again! Haha.)

Your stats and scores are incredible – based upon my own limited knowledge, I’d say that you are extremely competitive for any or all of the schools you have listed. All of your awards and extracurriculars focus your attention on your exceptional creative writing ability (I’m assuming that you want to pursue a major related to English) so that will be a definite advantage for you, although your scores do speak for themselves.

returning your favor :)

Your test scores are uber perfect! And it seems you have a great passion in music - choir.

Considering your EDing to Brown, I think your definitely going to get in.
Carleton, looking at their acceptance rate and SAT range, your definitely higher than their normal applicant so no sweat.

I’m sorry but don’t know too much about the others to chance.

Good luck !

If music is a big deal for you, and sacred music, take a look at the music board and search for liberal arts and music, as lots of CCers have wanted to do both. From my recollection and the little bit that I know, Williams has a great music program for its size–excellent choir that did Bach’s B Minor Mass last year. Pomona has an awesome select choir, too.

Northwestern has a terrific music program but the trouble is, if you aren’t in the music school itself, you have to pay for voice lessons and it may not be so easy to perform–but I don’t have solid evidence of that, as my son’s a vocal performance major at Northwestern Bienen School of Music and doesn’t know what it’s like for a liberal arts major who loves choral music. You probably know that if you want voice lessons at Indiana, you’ll have a grad student, unless you are in Jacobs. But my son has a good friend at IU who is not a music major who loves her grad voice teacher.

Brown: Son sang for the choir director at Brown and liked the choir and director (not a full-time position) but said it is pretty laid back, music-wise–it’s not a toe-the-line choir. But the choir was fun, is very good, does some interesting music, and tours on occasion. Brown has much non-choral music–there’s a mom on CC whose son has loved the international music opportunities at Brown.

Son visited Carleton and while he really loved the vibe and campus, there are few music majors, which didn’t suit him. But if it’s an extracurricular for you, that could be just fine. They seem to be very involved and happy at Carleton and have a lovely Prairie-style chapel.

Ifyou do decide to look at Ivies beyond Brown, IMHO Yale and H have fabulous choral groups and music courses. I’m sure P-ton is fine, but I don’t know anything about it. Harvard has a fantastic chapel choir that rolls out of bed every morning to sing a 15 minute service, a few yards away from a big freshman dorm. Really sweet. Divinity schools at Y and H might offer opportunities, too.

To borrow violadad’s phrase: it’s (just) my $.02. Much luck to you!

I think you are a very competitive candidate. Obviously when it comes to the Ivies (Brown) you are up against just as strong applicants but I agree with many of the other people who have chanced you that you have great chances at all the other schools you are applying to. Good luck!
