The Finally twenty schools

I wish you the best LeftofPisa - my brother, the artist, who has been reviewed by the LA Times several times, and who I thought would be impartial because he like my son is not a great sports fan and hasn’t agreed with my Father since he was born did everything but play the UCLA fight song in the background las we spoke. Though I must say he was higher on Cal Arts. So I feel your pain - actually all I’m trying to do now is shorten the list of schools before my son gets back from Govenor’s School and no more speaking to my side of the family.

Thank U for bringing the knowledge again wisdomsomehow - like everyone has spoken so far we are going to be looking for fit and oppurtunity and of course MONEY. Though he has traveled quite a bit most places my son would go would be new to him and as you know the East Coast is an entirely different vibe from the SoCal. Truthfully I’m the West Coast native he’s not and really were he feels most comfortable is a major consideration and truthfully if he got in I know his favorite right now is (SUNY) Purchase - but we will see. Now what have to do is figure out this audition schedule.

Late

Oh its my husband’s family so it causes me no pain.

Its like picking a name for your child. Just don’t tell them until its a done deed.

Hey…I know zero about theatre but I was surprised that the OP did not put down VCU as a safety…much better arts/theatre program than UVA or WM and a certain safety and financially an easy load. UVA is NOT a shoe in for anyone from NoVa and, while they want to have an ethnically diverse group of students, we saw the carnage last April when many black and hispanic students with excellent grades not so excellent SATs (like your S) were rejected and had failed to have good instate backups like VCU or George Mason lined up. The governor’s school definitely helps but you will find when he returns this month that most of the kids there are planning on applying to VCU as their first choice or their first safety so he may come back with a new school on his list.

Academically VCU is most likely a safety for the OP’s son. The program requires an audition to be admitted as well as an audition to officially enter the BFA Performance Track after two years of study (I believe).

[Theatre VCU](http://www.vcu.edu/arts/theatre/dept/apply.shtml)

Since an audition is required it would not be a safety in terms of the Theatre major. :)

While Brown and Yale are not auditons schools they are in no way a fit for the stats you are giving URM or not. They would both be reaches as they are for most people.
