The financial meltdown is really getting serious....pay attention people!

If you think Obama has a magic wand. Guess again. He doesnt. He is going to print money like no tomorrow...turn on the fire hose. But hyper inflation will whipsaw him like crazy and then he will have to raise interest rates to stop it. We are going over the edge of the abyss and the world is going with us.

And just for tantalizing conversation (I am agnostic on this factoid), the Mayan Calendar abruptly ends on December 21, 2012. The Mayan Indians had a theory of the end of times, having to do with the sun and stars. Its not my bag, but its out there.

As opposed to what Paulson & Co. have been doing?

Is there a reason this is in College Search and Selection?

It is going to be like Japan's decade long recession...It all started with the Japanese housing bubble crash and banks were holding their excess reserves fearful to loan out money thus screwing the economy up....

It is not going be that bad, we are going to get away with slight negative growth. It is not like our economy is going to start crashing into the toilet hold within the next 5-7 years. Ben Benanke is a noted scholar on his research and work related to the Great depression... He is about action. :D

I'm not sure if the President has the power to print out money....

The end of the Mayan calender is my 21st birthday o.O.

^^^ Even more reason to get drunk that day huh?!!! (Just kidding. Please drink responsibly.)

Its in college search Georgeanne because people are looking for colleges and they better pick responsibly. If you know anything about economics and the stock market you know we are headed a lot further DOWN from where we are today. 50,000 lost their jobs at Citibank today. Thats 50,000 families. That is a small city, pardon the pun.

More is coming. WallStreet is imploding. I know this from friends on the Floor of the NYSE.

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Dont shoot the messenger.

This is not political, Cayuga. Paulson is printing money too to put out the fire. Its still raging and skipping the tracks. If GM fails, and it might, lookout. 3,000,000 people will lose their jobs. If you understand what that means, you will start storing canned goods and water in your basement.

I am not kidding.

.. While this is relevant to picking a college (that is, finances), sure, I find it funny how you didn't mention college once in your original post.

inflation isn't always a bad thing. Especially now when money NEEDS to be lent.

A tip for the future: if you want people to take your political opinions seriously, don't talk about things like the mayan calendar ending. you look foolish - go read wikipedia to find out why (Mesoamerican Long Count calendar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Then you should probably get ready on that bomb shelter. I'm sure a cement hut and a bag of Cheetos will save you should the world end.

nocousin, I don't know which economists you're talking to but I don't know of many that say inflation will be any kind of problem, people are worrying about deflation.
