The First Thread for 2012!

don't get too worked up about the "remarks" portion on the commitment card... you don't have to write anything if you don't want (but i remember people last year FREAKING out about what they would write.. i just think kids read them and put your name in a computer database to make sure you're actually coming, so don't worry about what you write haha)

congrats to all brown '12!

I got mine, I was sort of disipointed tho, I had heard that they were personalized, i guess not.

hey everyone... im new at this... but im also applying for the gates millenium scholarship... im from the small island of saipan... on the pacific... i was wondering if there is any other islander who is applying for gates...

Congrats EDers. I am applying RD because I had to improve my scores. Brown is my number one choice and the only thing that scares me is getting rejected. Everything about Brown is amazing! Hopefully Brown will like what I present to them. Do I call the admissions office to set up an interview or do they call me? What kind of questions do they ask and are they extremely formal?

Sorry, I can't answer your question, KMT. I was wondering the same thing.

I have another question. What do you think my chances are of getting into Brown? It's my number one, but I couldn't apply ED because I still have not been able to visit. Anyway, here are my stats:

GPA - 4.7 on a 4.0 scale (goes up to 5.0 if you take all honors/AP)
ACT - 32 with 11 on writing
Extracurriculars -
Newspaper - Co-Editor-In-Chief, Asst. News Editor
Students Taking Action Now: Darfur - Co-Fundraising Director
Interact (Community Service Org)
Diving - I dove up until this year. I was on Varsity for two years.
Tennis - I played up until this year. I was on Varsity last year.

Unfortunately, around 14 people from my class are applying to Brown. I'm not at the top of the heap, but I'm certainly not at the bottom. I do have a connection to the Midwest Director of Admissions, though. My mom and dad have been good friends with her aunt and uncle for a long time. My dad was actually friends with the director's uncle when he was a kid, too.

So what do you think?

And congrats, EDers! I hope I can join you next fall.

Some stuff I forgot:
APs - European History - 5
AB Calculus - 5
U.S. History - 4
I'm currently taking 4 AP classes (Stats, World Hist., Spanish Lang., and English)
I have never taken a regular academic course.

More Awards/Honors:
NHS
Cum Laude
Nominated for National Young Leaders Conference
National Merit Scholarship Program – Letter of Commendation (never took the SAT, so couldn't advance anymore)
Academic Honor Roll
AP Scholar Award
Illinois State Scholar
Newspaper awards -
Editor’s Award – Selected by all editors (2006-2007)
Most Bylines (2006-2007)
Best News Writer (2006-2007)
Northern Illinois School Press Association Conference – Blue Ribbon for In-Depth Reporting (2006-2007)
Quill & Scroll (2007)

I also participated in a foreign exchange program, in which a student stayed with me for 10 days during the fall of 2006 and I stayed with him for 10 days during the spring of 2007.

So combined with the above, what do you think?

if an interview is available to you, an alumni in your area will call you after you send in your application for admission part 1

'Sup, '12-ers. I'm swelling your ranks. (:

I want to get in so bad, cant believe i have to wait until April! Idk if my stats are good enough though. Anyone Greek apply? I'm curious to see if there is a Greek community at Brown

3.9 GPA UW (only 30/330 i hate unweighted lol)
35 ACT
9 AP courses between junior and senior year
Student council all 4 years (treasurer)

What a relief to have applications over with! Brown was my top choice, by far. I cannot wait until the Fall. I go to an International School in Bali, Indonesia. I've lived here all my life, as my mother is from Bali. My dad is from the US. To me, College Admissions is almost random, but definitely apply ED! My AIM is bumbledee30 if anyone wants to talk. I'm looking to concentrate in International Relations at Brown, and participate in the Theatre program.
