The Fun Essay

Hello, all, I'm in the middle of writing the second supplemental essay option.. the fun one. I was wondering if this has to have a "what I learned" aspect to it, like many other colleges' essays... I'm really hoping that it doesn't - I'm enjoying just describing an experience right now and I feel that I'd ruin it somehow by relating it to a "big idea" or something of the like. Do you think that it'll hurt my chances if I don't include a paragraph or so about how this experience has helped me achieve/realize anything? Thanks!

I don't think you need to relate it to some "bigger idea." The point of that particular essay, in my opinion, is to show that you are a normal teen who does stuff other than pad your resume for college admissions, and also that you can write about something that's not very serious. Try to let your sense of humor shine through in this essay! Good luck!

yes!! That's my favorite kind :] I love this stuff.

I totally agree with what has been said. Screw the "what I learned" crap...that's so formulaic. If your instincts are telling you not to do it, then don't! The prompt sounds like Pomona wants to see the spontaneous side of you. Who said you had to learn anything by having fun?
