The Future of The UC system. Take a look.

University of California - Commission on the Future

There's a lot here but, if your kid is thinking about going or is enrolled, you might want to take a look.

What scares me is the very same goofballs (Yudoff on down) who have driven the UC to the edge of financial ruin are now are telling us how they are going to fix it. In essence, they want to take the UCs out of the hands of Californians and place them under control of the Feds.

What specifically did you read from the link that makes you think that way?

http://ucfuture.universityofcalifornia.edu/documents/fed_role_education.pdf

Do a search I think this was discussed in length already

However I think it is also a proposal that is DOA and going nowhere.

OK, a White Paper.

Frustration with the state, the want for more dollars, and the arguement as to what the purpose of a research university should be - I have heard other versions of the author’s thoughts over the years.

Frustration with the state? No. Disdain for the voters of California. He calls them an unreliable source of money because they rejected his ballot proposition earlier this year. And they continue to reject his request for money. On the web page, check out the survey he had done by PPIC. It shows the people of California reject the idea of increasing taxes for the UC or increasing tuition - big time. His tuition increases to in-state and OOS are a risky source of money and he’s looking for the sure bet. That’s the Feds. Notice also his advisor is Robert Reich. A big-government control guy.
