The Ginseng League

A formal name for the best/most competitive prep schools in the country. Similar to the Ivy League (Ginseng is related to Ivy), except we will just agree that most 1st tier schools are in it, rather than limiting. So all HADES/HEADS GCM/SHE GLAD M&M/etc., are included. What do you guys think? Can we get rid of all the stupid acronyms?

Getting rid of an acronym with a group? Well, we can try. It HAS to be an objective criterion which will NOT be based upon your acceptances or your “likes”.

well why don’t YOU come up with some? IN any case, part of the point is to just figure out a way to refer to great prep schools EASILY w/out LIMITING it. So just highly competitive schools with good matric., etc.

Based on your response to my post on another thread it should include:
[ul]
[]Andover
[]Exeter
[]St. Pauls
[]Hotchkiss
[]Deerfield
[]Milton
[]Groton
[]Choate
[]Lawrenceville
[]Cate
[]Thacher
[]Middlesex
[/ul]

Has to have a limit to how many also… If it is eight (ivy league) I would conclude of heads gcm… Sounds like a ranking thread of schools which we already know are amazing… What about the Silent Schools?

And St. Andrew’s (DE).

well it should be more than eight…perhaps the “top” 15 or 20 prep schools? the point though was to NOT rank or limit.

If the point is to not rank or limit, then every prep school around should be on that list.

This is the same things has HEADS/HADES etc. with a different name…

Exactly. No one on this board will give anything more than that. If you want a “talent search”, per say, then make it of the best kept secrets.

very well, we shall make a list.
HEADS GCM&M, plus L’ville, NMH, etc.

big: Andover, Exeter, Choate, L’ville, Milton
Medium: Deerfield, St. Paul, Hotchkiss
Small: Groton, Middlesex, St. Andrews, Thacher

Expand the lists as you wish.

Is that according to size?

it better be

number of students - > 600; 400 - 600 (?); < 400, not sure if I accurately assigned those schools though. I mean, if you want to match the pattern of colleges, shouldn’t you distinguish bigger ivies or smaller LACs?

nah. can we PLEASE not turn this into a ranking war??? “first tier” or “most well-known” or “most competitive” enough for you???

If you are not limiting to tier 1, then I would add:
St Georges, St Marks, Georgetown and Concord. Just MHO.

My suggestion is that you group schools of similar size into 2 or 3 categories, then give each a name. Later you can just mention that name to refer to one type of school. This is not about ranking.

any ideas?
p.s. yes, this is tier one.

the point is that it is ALL tier one schools, not just this “HADES” crap that leaves out schools like Choate and Middlesex.

HADES is just a convenient acronym that sounds nice - it is not meant to be the ONLY definitive list of top schools. If it was then it would be unconscionable that Milton and Groton and schools of that nature are not included. All it does is make it easier to refer to the schools that we often mention on this fourm.

If you would like then you can call them HADES + GMMLC Or whatever combination you desire but there is nothing inherently wrong with referring to the HADES as HADES. It has been made clear that these are not the only top schools. So if you want start the trend by saying HADES GMMLC or HADES + or whatever you wish but let people decide for themselves whether to use an acronym that they believe is convenient or not.

That’s the effing POINT of the Ginseng League! an easy way to refer to all first-tier schools, rather than an unwieldy acronym like “HADES + GMMLC”
