The good ol' should i retake?

I just got my scores back for the Oct. SAT. This is the second time I took them. My banked score is now 2240.

My CR was good at a 780, but writing and math are both 730 now, which is not as high as I'd like. I'm Chinese. I live in Westchester County NY. I'm applying EA to Harvard. Enough said.

Am I screwed? Or would I be screwed anyway, even if I gain 30 more points?

any ideas?

You're not screwed... I'm sorta in the same boat but i'm not retaking. 770 CR 720 M (thats the one ew) 740 W 2230. If you've taken an SAT II Math and scored well on it, your math score shouldn't make or break you. I just think it's too much of an effort to retake it.

a sad bump?

am i the only one who thinks that a 2240 is a REALLY good score?? i wouldn't retake it if i were you. i would be thrilled if i got your score.

Yes, it's a good score in the context of the entire country. However, it's hardly a standout in a pool of 2300+/Vals. (Being that i am neither val nor sal, nor NMF, nor a 2300+ scorer...)

I do realize there's no score that will get me in, though.

whatever then. if you feel like you can improve do it.

Focus on your essays.

Already sent them in...

The Harvard app is out and they will not see your December test (soonest you can retake the SAT) so it will not help you. I doubt raising your math score 20 points to a "respectable" 750 will make a difference. SATs are one part of the app. Anything 2200+ will not make or break you unless it is 2400. You would have to be sure you can raise your SAT scores to 2300 (800 CR, 750 Math, 750 Writing) for it to be worth the time and effort to retake. If there is any doubt you can pull off a 2300+ dont waste the time. Spend it writing your other apps (just incase) and keeping your grades in school high.
