The Good Teacher Thread

Just thought I'd add some positive vibes to counteract "The Bad Teacher Thread." Not that I haven't had my share of bad teachers.

For example... the APE 12 teacher at my school is the best ever. We watch tons of movies, but then we actually learn a lot from them, because he stops them and points out the symbolism and references.

My IB Sr. English HL teacher is the best teacher ever. She dedicates more time to us (the 13 IB students of the class) then she does for herself. For example, before some IB papers are due, she would hold study sessions at her house or at Starbucks to help us out. She also wrote a wonderful recommendation for me.

Wow, a bit disappointing that this thread isn't getting as much attention as the "Bad Teacher Thread."

My IB HL History teacher is great. History, to me, is one of those classes where the teacher you get can really make or break the course, and he has definitely succeeded in making the course interesting. He does give notes, but much of the class is spent discussing the content, and trying to really understand it, rather than memorize and regurgitate on the test. He also adds humor to the class, and I don't think a single class goes by without us laughing at something or another.

My freshman science teacher is, undoubtedly, the most intellectually curious guy I've ever met. He taught me more science that year than I have ever acquired, and all the Popular Mechanics and Science magazines he had lying around all the time prompted my research. He never directly answers a question, and always makes you help him get organized, but his quirky behavior and hints at incredible articles (which he always remembers the time period and magazine) and encouragement to pursue your interests are amazing! :]

Several colleges have a chapter of a Facebook group called "Mr. _____ is my hero" devoted to my math team coach (also the school's AP calc teacher). A similar t-shirt was also made my senior year.
