The Grammatix of the ACT?

Has anyone tried the Lazy Student's Way ACT prep guide by Air'n Monahen? By the looks of it, the format is the same as Grammatix for the SAT. But is it as effective? What do you guys think.

I have posted a thread very similar to this one and only one person replyed; they said that the refund guarantees are fake, but the product nontheless does seem intriguing.

Well I did buy the product and never used the refund. I'm not sure if it helps but I did increase my score 3 points from 28 to a 31 within a week although I think a majority of that is just natural.

I don't think there's any secret to the ACT essay except to write your head off. What they're looking for is tons and tons of details and examples. They care very little if any about spelling, grammar, word choice, sentence variation, and even essay structure.

If you're a not a fast writer, as I am not, and can only manage 1-2 pages for the Essay in the slim time allotted (7 years without picking up a pencil will do that to you), tough luck in their book.

I bought the lazy student's way product from air'n monahan to prepare for the april ACT, and I HIGHLY recommend that you STAY AWAY FROM IT. first of all, the price is a huge ripoff, and the picture shown on this website http://www.beattheact.com/ is a fake (they dont send it in a big box that looks full of stuff). I can name so many deceptive things about this product. There's only about 80 pages in the manual, and about 20 of them alone consist of introductions and tables of contents. Furthermore, to take up even more space in the already-small amount of pages given, the author uses a very large font and has large blank margins on all sides of the pages. Some pages only have one or two lines in them, and then the author starts a new topic on a whole new page (this immediately gives the buyer a feeling of being ripped off when looking at a page that is 95% blank. In fact, some pages have messages that say "this page intentionally left blank"). The pieces of advice given are extremely obvoius to any test taker. For example, "skip hard questions for last" and "the math section has no order of difficulty." Several typos were clearly present as well, and the list of negatives is seemingly endless.

Once again, I strongly warn you to stay away from this "Underground" manual as much as possible. To me, this is just one of those scams that looks too good to be true. I admit it, the line on the website "You're About To Learn The Proven Secrets To Skyrocket Your ACT Test Score— Guaranteed!” got my attention. But trust me, getting an ACT prep book is a much smarter move. The prep books out there actually work and cost less than half as much as this ripoff guide, and they contain much more helpful hints and practice tests. The stuff given in this product can be found free of cost in many websites just by searching 'ACT' in Google or Yahoo. Buying this product made me think, "I can't believe advertising on the internet has come to this..."

The only good thing about this product is that the refund guarantee is not fake. I tried the product out, was thoroughly disappointed, and asked them to give me a refund, which they did. If this product still seems intriguing to anyone, I will not interfere with your judgement. By all means, try the guide out, and see if it "skyrockets" your score. But I warn you, it'll DEFINITELY fall short of what you were expecting.

muz53, I respect your opinion, but I disagree. The tips might be simple but for me, it was much simpler to look at the guide's simple tips than to read the real ACT study guide and decipher their essays on how to beat the ACT. In the end, I realized that a lot of the tips from both books are practically the same. The really bad part, as you said, is that the LazyStudents guide costs a lot more than the real ACT guide but I guess it was worth it since my score went up.

to JM8879: yes, the Real ACT Guide has terrible tips because the ACT makers don't really want every student to get 12's on their essays. But the "ACT prep book" i was referring to above is not just limited to ACT's book... Princeton Review, in my opinion, had a very simple yet effective approach to getting a high essay score. Sorry if this caused confusion. By the way, what i reviewed above dealt with the product's overall value, which includes the tips on the multiple choice sections as well as on the writing. Spending that much money on such simple tips that you can probably get in other books (besides ACT's book) is not really worth it. Again sorry for the confusion i might've caused.

I actually ordered LSW's ACT guide about 5 months ago. I didn't really get to go through it until the April ACT. I found the guide to be a little helpful, but personally, Princeton Review's ACT book is a lot better. You can check it out if you want. I did take advantage of the one year guarantee and I DID get my money back.
