The Grandparent Thread

I get to see our 3 mo old sweetie tomorrow. Can’t wait!

@somemom One more idea.

Have you tried a heating pad? Put it on the lowest setting and, if necessary, put a towel or something over it. Test to see how warm it is. Place baby on heating pad on his tummy. It works for some babies.

Got the call last night! S and DIL (married last September) are expecting in November. Her mom and my H and I are the only ones to know because it’s early days, but if I don’t tell someone I’m going to burst! So, here I am. First grandchild on both sides and will be the first great-grandchild for my S’s two grandmothers. Words can’t describe how I’m feeling this morning

Yayayayay!! Congrats!! Ours is 6 mos old already! Hard to believe!

Thanks @jym626. Wow, 6 months already…time flies.

Congrats! It’s amazing - can’t wait to see my GD again next month. She’s 4.5 months old now.

We also are back on the grandparent track. My DIL had an early miscarriage last March and is now 12 weeks along with a girl!! She is due the week of their 3rd wedding anniversary; much to celebrate.

This will be the first for us and well as my son’s inlaws, with 3 sisters of my DIL and my daughter waiting to spoil her rotten  This will be my parent’s 3rd great grandchild and my MIL’s 9th :open_mouth:

Congratulations, @runnersmom!

Congratulations, @snowball!

Isn’t the feeling of love for our grandchildren amazing?! I got to spend four days with one-year-old GS this week. I love snuggling with him when he’s ready for a nap. He’ll snuggle for a few seconds while awake, but he likes to be ‘on the move’. He’s so much fun now – he drives his cars, builds towers (and knocks them down!), loves to ‘sing’ and ‘dance’, plays catch, and is always happy to have someone read to him.

Congrats everyone!!

My second granddaughter is scheduled for delivery in mid April! Her sister is 22 months. I’m so excited! I’m also dreading the long trip to see them in May because I’m recovering from a pulmonary embolism following a total knee replacement. I get very winded if I’m standing more than 10-15 minutes. It’s been seven weeks and I’m getting discouraged that I’ll be better in time. I’m afraid I’m not going to be much help.

Congrats on all the good news! We are out visiting and doing babysitting duty with our 14 mo GS. Can’t believe how time flies. He is a perpetual motion machine and just collapses when spent. We are ready to collapse too!

Ods and wife are expecting in November!!! We were THE very first ones they told. They are traveling to see her family next week and will tell them in person then. We are beyond excited!! Grandchild #2.

Congratulations @VaBluebird! I’ll be waiting right along with you for November to get here.

I wanted to post an update because ‘colicky’ crying grandson is so much better. He has been a screamer since early on and there was one day at maybe 6-8 weeks old when he screamed like he was getting shots for no reason we could see. We actually stripped him naked to see if there was something in his clothes etc. What is extremely frustrating is that we are not stupid or uninformed:
DD mentioned it to the doctor at check ups
Her doctor is a personal friend of DH so we know she was respected as not an over-reactive mom
They pretty much said, “babies cry”
Another DD is an MD
We are smart people
We have the internet
We searched Mommy blogs
At the 4 month check up, DD asked for the medicine for reflux, I think it’s omoperazole or one of those.
Amazing, incredible, fantastic improvement.
So, the poor little guy suffered for 4 months in pain and we suffered through all that screaming and early on, all she got was, “Babies cry” from multiple sources.
If any of your grandbabies cry unusually, longer than it should be, more fussy that they should be, etc., I’d specifically ask the doctor about the medicine! I wish we had sooner.

DD and DSIL arrived today form the opposite coast; got to hug the boy baby in the belly; and I got invited to come ‘help out’ after the birth for ~3-4 weeks or whatever I thought reasonable. They nixed ‘the next 18 years will work’

Got the call yesterday that all the prenatal and genetic tests were negative and they are having a boy

Only little glitch is that S found out he is a carrier for an Ashkenazi Jewish-related recessive disease (not Tay-Sachs). No issue for this little one (DIL does not carry the gene) but he will encourage his siblings to be tested before they are ready to have a child (unlike S&DIL who rolled the dice and had the tests after she was pregnant). I think H and I will be tested as well so we can know which side of the family to alert, since S is the first of 21 grandchildren to have a child.

We are waiting for DD1 to let us know she is in labor…right now they live 100 miles from us. DD2 has a Skype job interview on Thursday, two finals on Friday, graduation on Saturday. Then DD2, H and I travel to nephew’s wedding the following week. Hope baby comes before May 5. She is over 7 lb, last Wed DD1 was 2 cm dilated and cervix was 75% softened. I believe the signs along with the baby not getting over 8 lb will lead to inducing (even though due date is stated as May 7). Either labor will start, the signs will be right on Wed, or we will be waiting day by day…Very good OB/GYN. Thankfully DD has excellent insurance, which includes a breast pump and this physician on the provider list.

First grandchild for us, second for SIL’s parents.

Will post when baby comes!

I hope you are feeling much better @juniebug. Has your granddaughter arrived yet?

Congratulations, @VaBluebird. Isn’t it fun to know?

@somemom, I am glad to hear there is improvement for your sweet grandson.

@mominva, Enjoy every sweet snuggle. Once Baby Boy is here, they’ll be grateful for your help. You may be able to stretch your time a week or two.

@runnersmom, Baby boys are so much fun!

I can’t wait to hear, @SOSConcern! May 7 is my dear grandmother’s birthday. She was the most loving and generous person and she made our childhood years very special.

I stayed with GS while D and SIL were away for a long weekend. We had a great time. I know how blessed I am to be so close to D, SIL, and GS.

Going the group. My D is due in October. She just got the results of the genetic testing. Everything came back negative and they’re having a girl. We’re all thrilled!

Congratulations! @ams5796, that is great news!

Welcome to this kind and supportive group.
