Yes! Do it asap so that it is effective when you meet the baby!
Yes, we got the vaccine.
Yes, I got my “grandma shot” about a month before baby was born. My pharmacist said insurance wouldn’t approve and I could go get it at health department for free. I had plenty of flex money at the time and just said charge it and let’s get it over with. For once, I didn’t feel like getting in a throw down fight with insurance about a roadblock:)
@SouthJerseyChessMom - Yes, get the vaccine right away. Luckily, I had already had one due to some volunteer work I do. I still got very sick when GS was an infant (not pertussis but a nasty virus) and needed to wear a mask and look at him from across the room for a few weeks. Your grandchild will be here soon!
Congratulations, @atomom! Babies bring so much joy.
Congratulations, @Scipio! Very exciting!
@JEM - Thank you for that link. That piece is lovely!
@juniebug - D had a very similar experience. GS did have a laser treatment for his tied tongue. He was also called a ‘lazy eater’. D finally rented a scale so she could make sure GS was getting enough breast milk at each feeding because she was so worried. She did have to supplement with formula for awhile, which was really hard for her, but she was worried that she was starving her sweet son. His weight dipped down below the 5th percentile at one time, but now he is a healthy 16-month old and his weight is at the 80th percentile!
GS calls me by name now :X and shows me where to sit when we are playing together. He loves to play catch (I roll or bounce the ball to him and he throws it back to me) and can play for a good ten minutes. We watched some of the College World Series together. He clapped when the crowd did. I tell his parents that we might have a little ball player. He also loves his water table, bubbles, feeding the dog food he doesn’t want, snuggling, being read to, and going for walks to the park.
Timely conversation as I got the vaccine today. Double header as I got the first Shingrix shot too, but happy to get the TDaP out of the way even though the baby isn’t due until November!
@juniebug if mom doesn’t have a copy of “The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding”, buy her one. The book contains a lot of helpful information such as at approximately what ages they have a growth spurt and will nurse every hour, etc.
Thanks, @hrh19 and @GloriaVaughn! Granddaughter had lost a bit more weight this week, so DIL has been told to pump 24 ounces a day and feed via bottles for the next week. If she hasn’t gained by then, she will have to be evaluated at the children’s hospital. DIL didn’t have this problem with her first child and is getting discouraged. I would never say anything like this to her, but is it possible the breastmilk isn’t high calorie enough?
Yes, get the shot!
My DS LOVED his lalabu dad shirt. https://www.lalabu.com/dad-shirt/ Don’t pay full price (its $$$$$) as there are deals all over the web (usually at least 20% off) but he loved it, and also used it as a halloween kangaroo pouch!
@juniebug if she follows what they say, I suspect the baby will gain weight. It may be not eating enough via breastfeeding, and this way they can measure what is taken by baby. Baby may be a bit of a lazy eater.
DD/GD seem to have the breastfeeding down pretty well but they are not adverse to making up some formula in-between. At 2 month appt GD weighed 10 lb 10 oz (started at 7 lb at birth 5-2). The 77 YO pediatrician didn’t even discuss growth charts.
I noticed various books about breast feeding and baby on the coffee table, but our visit was so short I didn’t really have a chance to study and discuss. DD/SIL are doing a great job with GD.
I often made these ‘Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Lactation Cookies’ for D. It is said that they boost your milk supply. http://www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/oatmeal-chocolate-chip-lactation-cookies-by-noel-trujillo-192346 When H was eating one, D asked if he liked the lactation cookies. For a brief moment, H thought they were made with breast milk and the look on his face was priceless.
I’m joining this thread because new DIL told us on June 17 that she is pregnant, and we’ve finally been given permission to share the news. So, nothing else to share but that, and to announce that I’m finally able to join this wonderful happy thread.
welcome!
Welcome. It’s a joyous club to be part of.
Welcome, VeryHappy! If you were very happy before, you will be even happier when you meet your grandchild.
Due the end of January. The couple has decided not to learn the sex beforehand.
That’s unusual these days, but good for them choosing to be surprised.
It’s funny, I’ve known two couples having babies this year who decided not to find out the sex.
Congratulations, @VeryHappy!
I also know of a couple who are waiting to learn the sex of the baby. I wonder if this is a new trend.
