The Grapes of Wrath

[quote]
"And they stand still and watch the potatoes float by, listen to the screaming pigs being killed in a ditch and covered with quicklime, watch the mountains of oranges slop down to a putrefying ooze; and in the eyes of the people there is the failure; and in the eyes of the hungry there is a growing wrath. In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage."

You found wonder and excitement in this? I salute you...in all seriousness. A natural literary/book person indeed. That's pretty difficult.

^ I just think...it's everything perfect and amazing and beautiful and powerful about literature in a single passage about some freaking fruit. Who but Steinbeck could do that?

pastures of heaven...ftw

Read Crime and Punishment

Of Mice and Men
as well as
The Pearl
are great!

The only thing I didn't like about GOW (which I just finished reading also) was the ending........lame.
