erm, good luck

good luck too and let me know how it’s going. ur teacher is ridiculous on this whole HW assignment.

Yes, you cheated.

I’d give you 25% (in this case, truncate to 6 points). Really, you did half the work, but then you copied it over to try and trick the teacher into giving you credit for work you didn’t do. So I’d cut in half the number of points for the work you did, because that second part is dishonest.

I would’ve just walked in with whatever I had and told the teacher that he or she can just deal.

P.S. The day of the APUSH (APEH for me) test was opening night of a play, and Show Week (also AP French and AP Calc Week) is a much bigger time commitment than a little extra homework, so I’m a little lacking in sympathy.

I’m not asking for sympathy (3 weeks before the exam, I was in Atlanta for DECA for a week-imagine my makeup, I had two other APs, my grandfather had just died, the list doesn’t stop), but rather your opinion.

But, however, it seems like the majority, almost all, agree that I deserve some credit. Am I correct?

Hahaha .

zamzam, harsh much??

That’s not cheating, thats getting half the answers wrong.

Let’s say he puts down the name of a classmate for every answer on the second half of his assignment. Now, would that be cheating? I think not.

@ Zamzam
I don’t think he did it to be dishonest; after all, how many teachers wouldn’t notice that the second half of a major assignment is the repeat of the first?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but yes, that is cheating. My English teacher had this whole discussion with our class. Basically, she said that in college, professors see cheating as not only copying other people, but also yourself. In addition, since you were trying to “trick” the teacher and hope that he/she wouldn’t notice that you copied, that’s … even worse. And yes, professors in college give out 0’s to these people.

But hey, you’re not in college yet! Most schools back down when parents get involved.

And although the goal of all classes is to teach, I believe that AP classes are geared towards passing the class more than actually caring if you learn the material…

But yeah, good luck with this! Let us know what happened (:

Yeah I actually had a discussion with another student whose mom is a professor and is in the same situation.

If I had no justification of the AP test, and was doing this just to be lazy, then I would allow full punishment on myself. HOWEVER, priorities got mixed up, and apparently my teacher’s were different from the opinions of me and my peers.

I’ll let you guys know what happens!

I agree with Aero…

…credit or not, “cheating” must have a shoddy definition if what you did is considered “cheating.” Academic dishonesty? What utter bull. Supposed intentions don’t hold up, so unless this is stated class policy or something, I don’t see what right the teacher has of calling your a cheater. I think everyone agrees that it was a poorly done assignment, and it should be treated as just that.

Your teacher is quite silly, playing the so-called morality police.

But yeah. I want the follow-up. =]

No, getting your priorities mixed up is coming to class with half the homework done, with the explanation, “I was studying.” If this was the case, then the teacher probably would have just given you credit for what you did, told you to sort out your priorities, and moved on.

Taking the time and effort to copy your assignment so as to fool the teacher is a deliberate act of deception. It was dishonest, plain and simple, and you don’t deserve credit.

That assignment would’ve taken an hour and a half. Maybe 2. When I had 4-5 hour rehearsals every day that week, on top of studying for AP Calc (and, earlier, for AP French), I can’t really muster up much sympathy. You cheated, and you got caught. Was it worth it?

I guess 75% of MY APUS class has even worse academic integrity because they did not do 100% of the assignments given following the AP test.

Seriously, your teacher sucks. Ours accepts late work from months back for full credit… Maybe its because she just had her baby… seems so happy.
