the great english class debate

I am going into my sophomore year and i am having trouble trying to figure out what english class i should take. I have always done well in english but struggled in honors my freshman year. I have also decided to take accelerated biology, latin 2, and algebra 2 as well. For me, that alone is a hefty load of work without all of my other classes included. I am also very involved in school/extracurriculars, stretching my time very thin. So here is where my english dilemma comes in: at my school, sophomore english is based on american literature and non fiction, my weakest points in english. I manged to bet b's my freshman year but knowing my weakpoints, will probably get c's knowing the teacher and situation i will be in. So is it better putting myself in cp english and having a better chance at a's and b's or more likely struggle in honors and get c's but still stay on the honors track and possibly take a hit to my gpa? (P.s...my summer reading included the scarlett letter and i cannot comprehend Shakespearean literature well)

The Scarlet Letter isn’t by Shakespeare… But anyhoo, I feel like the honors English track prepares you better than the regular track. At least at my school, there’s a day and night difference between the two. For me, honors had more emphasis on writing an analysis at a deeper level and also, thankfully, less busy work. I think you should go ahead and take it. I’m sure you’ll get a B or better if you work hard :)

Haha whopse! Thats what i get for writing things at 12:30 at night. Sorry! I meant to say that its the “older” styling of writing that challenges me. But thanks for your advice! :)

At my school there aren’t any honors history classes until your senior year. (we call it AP Euro) But from what it sounds like, I’ll just do Honors English. I’ve talked to many people about this topic now (including the ones on this site) and it seems like the smartest thing to do. Thanks for the advice! :)
